Seeking a creative and talented Multimedia and Graphic Design Specialist to support strategic communications and public affairs initiatives on behalf of a federal agency. This position is ideal for a visual storyteller who can translate important, and at times sensitive, topics into compelling multimedia and other visual products for broad public audiences.
This position works full-time onsite at a federal agency in Washington, DC. Occasional travel is required, sometimes with short notice to support time-sensitive events and official engagements.
Responsibilities:
• Provide end-to-end photography as well as multimedia video production and graphic design for a wide range of internal and external communication products.
• Develop visually compelling and mission and message-aligned creative assets, including photojournalistic content, short- and long-form videos, infographics, and static and motion graphics.
• Capture and produce broadcast-quality photography and video at official events, interviews, and on-location shoots using professional-grade cameras, audio equipment, lighting kits, and related production tools.
• Research, plan, storyboard, script, and produce multimedia videos that clearly communicate key messages to a variety of audiences.
• Create social-media-optimized content, including influencer-style videos, sizzle reels, and platform-specific creative assets for channels such as X, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and others.
• Support all aspects of video production, including concept development, filming (on-site and in-studio), editing, motion graphics creation, and delivery of production-ready final products.
• Apply creative storytelling techniques and appropriate production values based on the medium, audience, and budget-ranging from simple interviews to more complex narrative-driven multimedia pieces.
• Produce multimedia content that may include partially animated elements, podcasts, or other audio-based products, as required.
• Ensure all multimedia products comply with accessibility standards, including captioning, audio description, and other accessibility best practices.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines while producing quick-turn production-ready assets.
• Manage and maintain required documentation, including executed consent forms, image releases, and licensing information for all static and recorded content and procured assets.
• Ensure proper licensing, attribution, and documentation for stock imagery, b-roll, music, and other third-party assets, including documentation of the government's perpetual usage rights.
• Provide team assistance for livestreaming of press events as needed.
• Catalog, organize, and store multimedia and graphic assets in a searchable and retrievable format for government public affairs staff, supporting both current and future content needs.
• Collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams, including content strategists, writers, marketers, and government stakeholders, to support integrated communication campaigns.
Must Have Skills:
• A Bachelor's degree in Multimedia Design, Visual Communications, Graphic Design, Journalism, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of professional experience providing photography, multimedia production, video or visual communications support, or graphic design.
• Demonstrated experience creating high-quality visual and multimedia content for digital and social media platforms.
• Proficiency with industry-standard creative tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Lightroom, Media Encoder).
• Experience capturing and producing professional-quality photography, video, and audio content.
• Strong visual storytelling, composition, and design skills, with an eye for detail and brand consistency.
• Comfortability working in a fast-paced environment managing multiple priority projects.
• Excellent communication (verbally and in writing) and collaboration skills, with experience working alongside multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders.
• Willingness and ability to travel on short notice, including occasional overnight travel, to support on-site events, press engagements, and official productions.
• The ability to successfully obtain a government-issued Public Trust clearance.
• Familiarity with accessibility standards (e.g., Section 508) as applied to multimedia and digital content.
