The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is seeking an Electrical Engineer to provide onsite electrical engineering oversight in support of the U.S. Consulate Durban, South Africa. The role focuses on construction quality assurance, technical inspections, and engineering oversight of a Lease Fit Out (LFO) project within a multi tenant commercial building, ensuring compliance with U.S. codes, OBO standards, and approved design documents.

Project Summary:
Tetra Tech provides engineering and construction management support to the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) for a Lease Fit Out (LFO) project at the U.S. Consulate in Durban, South Africa, located within the Nedbank Building at Umhlanga Ridge.
The project includes approximately 3,000 m² of leased space across multiple floors and areas, including Controlled Access Areas (CAA), security and access control spaces, parking garage areas, and building utility interfaces. Work includes electrical, fire alarm, telecommunications, and security related systems, as well as select improvements outside the lease boundary such as utility connections and security infrastructure.
Construction occurs within an occupied commercial building, requiring close coordination with building management, tenants, and security stakeholders. The anticipated period of performance is approximately 24 months.

Position Summary:
This 24-month assignment at the U.S. Consulate Durban requires a seasoned Electrical Engineer with a minimum of seven (7) years of hands-on vertical construction experience to support construction quality assurance, technical inspections, and contract compliance for a Lease Fit Out project.
The Electrical Engineer will work closely with OBO onsite leadership, reviewing contractor submittals, monitoring installation quality, and verifying that electrical systems are installed in accordance with approved designs, U.S. standards, and project requirements.

Responsibilities:
• Review and approve shop drawings for high/low voltage and fire alarm systems.
• Conduct field inspections of electrical installations.
• Ensure compliance with U.S. codes, OBO standards, and safety requirements.
• Monitor progress and prepare technical reports.
• Coordinate with other engineering disciplines.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a U.S.-accredited institution (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) or equivalent), required.
• Minimum of seven (7) years of vertical construction site experience (e.g., embassies, consulates, multi-story office buildings, residential or mixed-use complexes, government or institutional buildings, secure facilities, data centers, hospitals, command centers, or similar vertical structures), required.
• Active U.S. Secret Level Security Clearance, required. Must be active for this position.
• Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills.
• Overseas construction experience preferred.
• Familiarity with international codes and cross-functional engineering coordination.
