Job Description

Duties

  • You will direct the daily maintenance of small craft for the safety of passengers and crew.
  • You will interpret diagrams or blueprints to determine the required corrective action for malfunctioning equipment on small craft.
  • You will identify discrepancies in equipment on small craft which may cause a hazard to personnel or property.
  • You will consider the type and amount of a spill, the location, current, wind, wave, and temperature conditions to determine the best method for containment.

  • Incumbent will obtain and maintain a driver's license and commercial driver's license to operate a motor vehicle and commercial vehicle.
  • The incumbent will be subject to working odd or rotating shifts and weekends.
  • Callback overtime is a requirement of this position. Must be willing and able to commit for 24/7 emergency recall for oil spill response.
  • Incumbent shall respond to oil spills, radiological emergencies and perform radiological emergency drills.
  • Incumbent must pass Navy second-class swim test or have completed STCW-95 (Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping).
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a forklift license to operate a forklift with capacity up to 15K.
  • Incumbent must complete Shore Installation Management Basic Boat Coxswain (SIM BBC) and Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) course.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE
1) Directing daily operations of the crew by assigning work, determining priorities, and instructing crew members; 2) Performing general maintenance and scheduled repairs, loading cargo, rigging sampling equipment, directing the vessel to its destination 3) Laying out courses to assigned destinations, using navigational and electronic aids to plot routes and determining whether scheduled operations can be safely performed on craft up to 74-foot; 4) Responding to oil spills and performing cleanup efforts related to oil spills; and 5) Identifying hazardous materials and proper disposal.
