We're seeking a collaborative, action-oriented leader for our FPGA Engineering Team. This position requires a desire to lead people and a desire to improve the way BAE Systems SMS executes. The Engineering Manager will lead a team of ~20 development engineers. This person will report directly to the Electrical Systems Engineering Manager and work closely with the EES Director and the other EES Engineering Managers.
This position provides an excellent opportunity to learn and grow as a leader of people, work closely with other leaders across the company, get visibility into what's going on across BAE Systems SMS portfolio of programs, and to make a difference in future success.

What You'll Do:
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Short Term Incentive: Subject to business performance and recommendations of management, this role may be eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan.

Full-Time Salary Range: $173023 - $294137
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.

What You'll Do:
- Lead and manage the EES Space-based FPGA Development Team.
- Coordinate and collaborate with the Tactical Electronics FPGA Development Team.
- Manage employee hiring, growth, and retention.
- Define performance expectations, conduct performance assessments, perform salary reviews and promotions, and support recognition programs.
- Ensure the team has the appropriate processes and tools in place to meet needs of programs and compliance with approved standards.
- Work with the FPGA Team and Engineering Leadership to implement AI tools aligned with the needs of the FPGA Engineers and the company.
- Facilitate adoption and continuous improvement of FPGA design/verification reuse IP libraries to improve program execution.
- On as needed basis, lead teams to resolve critical business, programmatic, or technical issues.
- Appropriately staff programs, initiatives, IRADs, capital projects, new business activities and other efforts.
- Proactively engage programs to prevent and address issues.
- Anticipate and ensure talent and skill mix of the team are in sync with the needs of programs and new business development organizations.
- Ensure engineers and designers are appropriately trained to meet needs of programs as well as employee career goals.
- Communicate relevant higher-level information to department personnel.
- Make defendable decisions, often with minimal information, and then re-evaluate, adapt, and update as things evolve and change.
- Identify IRAD and company overhead improvement efforts that would benefit our programs and our teams, and secure funding for these activities.
- Optimize all the above within the allocated overhead budget.
- Define the vision, purpose, and objectives for the department that aligns with higher-level corporate strategies and objectives and implement individual efforts to realize that vision and purpose.
- Ensure that all business is conducted with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with all applicable laws, statutes, and regulations as well as company policies and directives.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 12 or more years related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- A history of performance illustrating skills in being a self-starter, having excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work independently and with a team.
- Ability to apply sound leadership/management principles to an organization of high performing engineers developing electronics throughout the full lifecycle from proposal through delivery.
- Excellent problem solving, decision making (related to cost, schedule, technical and risk), and closure skills (dedication to close open items/issues).
- Digital system partitioning and advanced function implementation in FPGAs. Excellent design, documentation and implementation of high-speed digital electronics, FPGAs, and embedded processor systems.
- Expertise in VHDL/Verilog. Proficiency in SystemVerilog, UVM, Xilinx/Microsemi tools and Modelsim/Questa simulator is a plus.
- Experience throughout the entire FPGA development lifecycle from concept, architecture, requirements definition/flow down, design, verification, integration, and test.
- Electronic circuit design and electronic systems background.
- Experience in developing specifications, cost, schedule, and resource requirements for digital/FPGA designs.
- Solid presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex concepts to widely varying audiences.
