Job Description

Position Overview:

Caduceus is seeking a qualified Medical Review Officer (MRO) to support a nationwide drug testing and medical services program for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). This role is responsible for the independent medical review, verification, and reporting of drug test results in accordance with federal regulations. The MRO serves as a critical component of the Drug-Free Workplace Program (DFWP), ensuring that all test results are accurate, compliant, and legally defensible prior to reporting to the Government.

Required Qualifications:
Licensed Physician (MD or DO) in good standing
Certification as a Medical Review Officer (MRO)
Minimum 3–5 years of experience as an MRO or in occupational health/drug testing programs
Demonstrated knowledge of HHS Mandatory Guidelines and DOT drug testing regulations
Experience supporting federally regulated drug testing programs
Strong attention to detail and ability to make independent, defensible medical determinations

Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the designated Medical Review Officer (MRO) for CBP drug testing programs
Conduct independent review and verification of all drug test results, ensuring compliance with federal regulations
Evaluate laboratory results and determine the validity of positive, negative, and non-negative findings
Contact donors, when required, to conduct medical interviews and assess legitimate medical explanations (e.g., prescriptions)
Ensure all determinations comply with HHS Mandatory Guidelines and DOT regulations, as applicable
Provide final verified results to the Government in a timely and accurate manner
Ensure strict adherence to chain of custody procedures and documentation requirements
Maintain compliance with all privacy, confidentiality, and HIPAA requirements
Coordinate with laboratory personnel and the Laboratory Director to ensure accurate and timely result processing
Maintain complete and accurate records of all reviews, communications, and determinations
Support audits, inspections, and Government reviews, ensuring documentation is audit-ready
Provide guidance and consultation on drug testing policies, compliance, and program requirements
Ensure responsiveness to time-sensitive testing requirements, including post-accident and reasonable suspicion testing
Support nationwide and high-volume operations, ensuring timely turnaround of results
