Position Overview:
Caduceus is seeking an experienced Laboratory Director to support a nationwide medical and drug testing program for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). This role provides oversight of laboratory operations supporting the Drug-Free Workplace Program (DFWP) and ensures compliance with all applicable federal drug testing regulations. The Laboratory Director will oversee specimen testing, laboratory compliance, and quality assurance across a network of laboratories and testing facilities, ensuring accurate, timely, and defensible results in support of mission-critical federal operations.
Required Qualifications:
Doctoral degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent) in a chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or related field
Minimum 5+ years of experience in laboratory management or directorship, preferably in a federally regulated environment
Experience with forensic drug testing and laboratory operations
Demonstrated knowledge of HHS Mandatory Guidelines and federal drug testing requirements
Strong experience with quality assurance, compliance, and laboratory accreditation standards
Proven leadership and ability to manage multi-site or high-volume laboratory operations
Key Responsibilities:
Provide overall leadership and oversight of laboratory operations supporting CBP drug testing programs
Ensure full compliance with HHS Mandatory Guidelines and applicable federal drug testing regulations
Oversee the processing, analysis, and reporting of drug testing specimens, ensuring accuracy and reliability
Maintain laboratory compliance with certification, accreditation, and regulatory requirements
Ensure proper chain of custody procedures and integrity of all specimen handling and testing processes
Implement and maintain quality assurance and quality control programs to ensure accurate and defensible results
Ensure secure electronic transmission of laboratory results in accordance with federal data security and privacy requirements
Coordinate with the Medical Review Officer (MRO) to ensure timely verification and reporting of results
Oversee laboratory staffing, qualifications, certifications, and training requirements
Monitor laboratory performance metrics and implement corrective actions and process improvements as needed
Support audits, inspections, and Government reviews, ensuring complete and accurate documentation
Coordinate with subcontracted laboratories and providers to ensure consistent compliance across all testing locations
Ensure readiness to support nationwide operations and high-volume testing requirements, including surge support
