Day-to-Day
A defense-focused technology organization supporting U.S. Government customers is seeking a Data / Forward‑Deployed Engineer to support a growing, mission-critical program based on-site in Washington, D.C. This role exists due to continued contract growth and increased operational demand, and the team is expanding to keep pace with customer needs. You will operate as a customer-facing engineer, embedded directly with government stakeholders, owning data pipelines, applications, and platform troubleshooting that directly impact operational decision-making. The environment is fast-paced and high-visibility, requiring engineers who can move quickly, communicate clearly, and take ownership from problem identification through execution. Day-to-day work includes setting up and maintaining data transfers from source systems into platform-accessible environments, debugging delayed or missing feeds, and writing transformations and derived datasets using Spark for distributed computation. You will monitor build progress, troubleshoot pipeline failures, and iterate rapidly with subject matter experts to test and refine applications that answer real-world operational questions. Engineers on this team work in small, agile groups (typically 5–10 engineers) alongside product teams and mission partners. You will regularly respond to RFIs related to data availability and platform capabilities and collaborate closely with internal product engineers to understand and debug core platform components. This role offers high autonomy, technical ownership, and direct mission impact, with consistent exposure to complex, real-world data problems. Strong performers are often selected for expanded mission scope, long-term program placement, and advancement into senior engineer or technical lead roles, making this an excellent opportunity for engineers seeking growth in cleared, high-impact environments.

Must-Haves
-Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or Data Science
-Strong programming experience in Python (PySpark, Pandas) and SQL
-Experience working with data pipelines, transformations, or distributed data systems
-Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
-Comfortable working on-site in secure government environments
-Active Secret clearance (minimum)

Plusses
-Prior experience supporting government, defense, or intelligence customers
-Background in forward-deployed or customer-facing engineering roles
-Experience with Spark-based data processing at scale
-Comfortable working in fast-changing, ambiguous environments
