• Plan inspections of support facilities.
• Investigate incidents determining causes; recommending corrective actions required to prevent a reoccurrence.
• Participate as an advisor in a variety of safety management committees.
• Serve as a Fire Prevention with assigned responsibilities for the overall Fire management for inspections.
• Conduct fire response training sessions for departmental personnel.
• Serve as Interim Life Safety Program Manager SME with assigned responsibilities for the overall Life Safety Program for the local medical treatment facility.
• Schedule safety surveys for clinics.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• This position is a TERM Not to Exceed 4 years position. It is time-limited and may be extended up to a maximum of eight years.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
• This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.
• The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
• Travel (TDY) outside of the commuting area, as much as 15%.
• Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.
• One year trial/probationary period may be required.
• Night hours required once per quarter to cover required fire drills.
• Required to observe established safe working procedures and wear Personnel Protective Equipment clothing and/or equipment provided to minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Medical Health safety; 1) developing new safety programs, applying safe regulatory practices to the Medical treatment facility, 2) inspecting surveying workplaces to determine possible hazards, 3) directing accident investigations ;maintain reports, 4) educating staff on safe practices. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. [remove LL.M., if unrelated] with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
