Position Overview
The Shipping Lead will own the day-to-day execution of all shipping and receiving operations, ensuring material is received, processed, and shipped accurately and on time to support production and customer commitments.
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for driving throughput across the dock, coordinating with internal teams, and ensuring the shipping function operates efficiently and proactively.

Position Overview
The Shipping Lead will own the day-to-day execution of all shipping and receiving operations, ensuring material is received, processed, and shipped accurately and on time to support production and customer commitments.
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for driving throughput across the dock, coordinating with internal teams, and ensuring the shipping function operates efficiently and proactively.
Key Responsibilities
- Own daily shipping and receiving operations, ensuring efficient material flow across the dock
- Receive, inspect, and verify incoming material against purchase orders and packing slips
- Ensure all incoming material is properly processed, inspected, and allocated to the correct jobs/travelers
- Maintain accurate ERP transactions (receipts, shipments, inventory movements, lot traceability)
- Coordinate and prioritize material flow to support production schedules and prevent delays
- Package, label, and prepare outgoing shipments to meet customer and quality requirements
- Create and manage shipping documentation (packing lists, BOLs, export paperwork as required)
- Coordinate freight carriers and manage daily shipping schedules
- Own barcode implementation and traceability processes in collaboration with Quality
- Work cross-functionally with Planning, Quality, and Production to align on priorities and material flow
- Plan ahead for shipping demand, especially end-of-month volume spikes, to ensure smooth execution
- Maintain inventory of packaging materials (boxes, pallets, specialty packaging) to support upcoming jobs
- Ensure all job-specific packaging requirements are identified and prepared in advance
- Maintain organized inventory locations (raw material, WIP, finished goods)
- Own layout, organization, and efficiency of the shipping/receiving area
- Delegate daily tasks and priorities to Shipping Coordinator and ensure execution
- Support internal and external audits through accurate documentation and process compliance
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives (6S, Lean, safety) within shipping operations
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- ≥95% on-time shipment performance to customers
- ≥98% material availability to production (no delays due to shipping/receiving issues)
- 0 production delays due to missing packaging or shipping materials
- 100% compliance with barcode and traceability requirements
- Maintain packaging inventory to fully support monthly production demand
- Support reduction in expedited shipments through improved planning and coordination
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2-5 years of shipping, receiving, or warehouse experience in a manufacturing environment
- ERP experience required (inventory, shipping, or receiving transactions)
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize and operate in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and cross-functional coordination skills
- Forklift experience
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs regularly
Preferred:
- Experience in aerospace, defense, or precision manufacturing
- Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO quality systems
- Experience leading or directing work of others (informal leadership)
- Understanding of lot/batch traceability
