Job Description

Primus Aerospace is currently seeking a Junior Buyer to join our team at our Maryland facility.

Primus Aerospace is a leading manufacturing partner to aerospace, defense & space OEMs / Primes & Tier I suppliers. The company specializes in producing high-tolerance, complex geometry parts machined from standard and exotic metals. Primus supports major aerospace programs with companies such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman.

Job Purpose:

The Junior Buyer will support the procurement team in sourcing raw materials, hardware, and outside processing services in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is ideal for someone early in their career who is eager to learn supply chain fundamentals, develop vendor relationships, and grow into a full Buyer role.

You will work closely with senior team members and be trained on all aspects of purchasing, supplier communication, and production support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in sending RFQs and gathering supplier quotes for materials and outside processing
  • Support purchase order creation and tracking to ensure on-time delivery to production
  • Monitor order status and communicate updates to internal teams
  • Help expedite materials and services when needed to support production schedules
  • Maintain accurate records of supplier commitments, pricing, and lead times
  • Assist in resolving supplier issues such as delays, documentation, or quality concerns
  • Support inventory and material planning activities using ERP/MRP systems
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers and internal teams
  • Learn cost analysis, negotiation basics, and supplier performance tracking

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
  • Maintain ≥95% on-time delivery for all hardware, paint, adhesives, and consumables to support production and assembly schedules (month-over-month)
  • Ensure zero line stoppages attributable to missing purchased components (hardware, consumables, or outside services)
  • Maintain accurate and timely PO updates and status communication (≥95% accuracy)
  • Achieve favorable pricing vs. quoted budgets through supplier follow-ups and quote comparison support
  • Support reduction in expedite frequency by improving planning and supplier follow-ups

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or related field (or graduating soon)
  • Internship or prior exposure to manufacturing or supply chain is a plus, but not required
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to start a career in aerospace supply chain and grow within a high-performance team.
