The Master Machinist is responsible for designing, fabricating, and maintaining specialized equipment and assemblies to support advanced research initiatives. This role requires a high level of technical expertise in precision machining, custom fabrication, and the development of complex laboratory systems.

We are looking for a Master Machinist to join a dynamic team in College Park, MD.
The Master Machinist is responsible for designing, fabricating, and maintaining specialized equipment and assemblies to support advanced research initiatives. This role requires a high level of technical expertise in precision machining, custom fabrication, and the development of complex laboratory systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee machine shop resources, including tools, equipment, and materials.
- Design, fabricate, and assemble custom equipment to support research and development efforts.
- Build, maintain, and troubleshoot ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems.
- Design and fabricate specialized laboratory equipment, including optical instruments, microelectronic manufacturing systems, and X-ray-related components.
- Construct and install advanced piping systems, including those supporting toxic gas environments.
- Perform maintenance, modification, and upgrades to existing equipment and assemblies.
- Collaborate with scientists and engineers to conceptualize and develop custom apparatus for research applications.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience as a Master Machinist.
- Demonstrated experience in designing, fabricating, and building custom apparatus for scientific research.
- Proficiency in CNC programming and operation, as well as traditional machining techniques.
- Experience working with complex systems such as vacuum systems, precision instrumentation, or specialized laboratory equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a highly technical, research-driven environment.
- US citizenship and an active TS/SCI with Polygraph security clearance required
