Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) sector is seeking a Sr. Principal/Staff Project Manager to support the Columbia Dreadnought Launcher Program (CDLP) onsite in Sunnyvale, CA. This leadership position will report to CDLP Deputy Production Program Manager. This is a great opportunity to get into a role that is highly visible to customers and internal stakeholders.

What You'll Get to Do:

Serves as liaison between Program management and planning, technical leads, and functional management. Reviews status of projects and budgets; manages schedules and prepares status reports. Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and stakeholder-satisfaction goals and objectives. Develops mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving. Potential job duties may also include, but are not limited to:
  • Working side by side with the Program Manager and Integrated Product Team (IPT) leads on all program reporting and executive level presentations.
  • Ensuring that IPT processes and products result in quality, compliant, affordable, and on-time deliverables that achieve customer satisfaction.
  • Supports Risk and Opportunity management of the IPT and program.
  • Ensures implementation of new processes and implements process improvement changes.
  • Capturing, tracking and managing meeting action items to closure.
  • Creating, maintaining, and updating meeting attendance lists and rhythm.
  • Performing/Assisting as Cost Account Manager with Technical IPT lead.
  • Adherence to budget baselines utilizing Earned Value Management (EVM) or similar cost and schedule control methodologies and tools.
  • Managing Government/Customer supplied property or information (GFE/CFE, etc).
  • Management of suppliers to meet program objectives.
  • Adherence to all internal processes, policies and applicable industry standards.
  • Ensuring IPT understands and adheres to contract scope and manages change through control board activities.
  • Development and adherence to plans and schedules.


This requisition may be filled at either a Sr. Principal or a Staff Project Manager level.

Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Level 4:
  • Bachelor's degree with 8 years' or a master's degree with 6 years of relevant professional experience in project management activities. Additional 4 years of directly related professional work experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft system application tools.
  • Experience and/or knowledge in a manufacturing and production environment.
  • Experience and/or knowledge in Program/Project Management.
  • Ability to work closely with multiple functional organizations (Program Office, Engineering, Manufacturing, Field Operations, etc.).
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.


Basic Qualifications for Staff Project Manager Level 5:
  • Bachelor's degree with 12 years' or a master's degree with 10 years of relevant professional experience in project management activities. Additional 4 years of directly related professional work experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft system application tools.
  • Experience and/or knowledge in a manufacturing and production environment.
  • Experience and/or knowledge in Program/Project Management.
  • Ability to work closely with multiple functional organizations (Program Office, Engineering, Manufacturing, Field Operations, etc.).
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active U.S. Secret level security clearance.
  • Experience with cost, schedule, project leadership.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Experience in proposal roles and responsibilities a plus.
  • Knowledge of CAM and EVMS.
  • Material management experience.
  • Vendor and logistics/supply chain experience.
  • People leadership and familiarity with DOD Operations.

Primary Level Salary Range: $117,500.00 - $219,500.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $0.00 - $0.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
