Duties

As an AERIAL REFUELING TECHNICIAN (INSTRUCTOR), GS-2185-10, you will Instruct/Evaluate duties and responsibilities include providing ground and flight training to develop and upgrade the skills of assigned Air National Guard and Active Duty aircrew members, administering flight evaluations of aircrew members and instructors, and evaluating the effectiveness of the aircrew training program for the squadron commander. In-Flight Refueling requires knowledge of the full range of crew duties and responsibilities to include knowledge of methods of instruction; knowledge of aircrew training program requirements, procedures, and standards of performance; and skill to apply this knowledge in planning, developing, and executing unit training and evaluation programs. Conduct training that maintains the highest level of combat mission-ready proficiency of assigned crew members, instructors and examiners. Determine training requirements by analyzing unit training objectives, missions, combat readiness reports, flight examination reports and directives. Develop lesson plans in accordance with syllabus courseware. Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: This position works on a 5/4/9 compressed work schedule that consists of a 5-day workweek, then a 4-day workweek (eight 9-hour days and one 8-hour day and an SDO, Scheduled Day Off) to complete the 80-hour pay period. Work schedule is subject to change based on mission requirements.

Requirements

  • KANSAS AIR NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Must attain and maintain mission-ready status at the appropriate crew qualification level in the unit's assigned aircraft.
  • Periodically, as prescribed by regulations, must take and pass written and in flight standardization evaluation examinations to include random no notice evaluations.
  • The incumbent is exposed to physiological hazards of flight plus physical and psychological demands of routine lengthy missions (up to 24 hours duration).
  • Must work in confined, hazardous noise areas, is subject to inclement weather during ground operations and dangerous environmental conditions during flight, and may operate in austere location
  • May be required to travel in military and commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments.
  • Must be instructor qualified, maintaining proficiency in the Principles of Instruction
  • May be required to maintain flight examiner qualification. Periodically, as prescribed by regulations, must take and pass written and in-flight standardization/ evaluation examinations to include random no-notice evaluations
  • Required to maintain proficiency in the use of firearms. As prescribed by regulation, may be required to carry and use a concealed weapon while performing aircrew related duties.
  • Employee must be eligible and maintain a Top Secret-SCI clearance.
Qualifications

Military Grades: E-6

Compatible Military Assignments: 1A172H

GENERAL EXPERIENCE : Must have experience which has provided a general knowledge of aircraft fuel, electrical, and hydraulic systems and components.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : Must have at least one year experience equivalent to the next lower level as an Instructor/Evaluator with duties and responsibilities that include providing ground and flight training to develop and upgrade the skills of assigned Air National Guard and Active Duty aircrew members, administering flight evaluations of aircrew members and instructors, and evaluating the effectiveness of the aircrew training program for the squadron commander.
