Job Description

Job Title: Systems Engineer Level 1
Location: Hanover, MD
Clearance Required: TS/SCI with FS Poly
Employment Type: Full Time

About the Role

We’re seeking a motivated Systems Engineer Level 1 to join our team supporting a high‑impact mission environment. In this role, you’ll support the full systems engineering lifecycle while applying hands‑on RF and EMI/EMC expertise to ensure system performance, reliability, and compliance. You’ll collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and government stakeholders to deliver technically sound solutions that keep critical missions running smoothly.

What You’ll Do

• Apply systems engineering principles across the entire lifecycle—from concept and development through utilization and retirement.
• Support stakeholder requirements definition, requirements analysis, architectural design, implementation, integration, verification, validation, and transition.
• Participate in project planning, risk management, configuration management, decision management, and other core project processes.
• Ensure the technical integrity, quality, and completeness of engineering work products across assigned ISO/IEC 15288 process areas.
• Conduct EMI testing for unintended emissions across HF, VHF, and UHF spectrum ranges.
• Use RF tools such as network analyzers, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
• Work with RF components including amplifiers, filters, isolators, attenuators, and terminators.
• Develop and document test plans and produce formal test reports summarizing findings and recommendations.
• Review and define system and component technical performance requirements to ensure compliance with E3 noise electric field limits.
• Collaborate with internal and external agencies to ensure engineering support aligns with E3 program needs and customer mission goals.
• Travel up to 3 times per year for 7–10 days at a time.

Required Qualifications

• Experience coding in Python and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA).
• Strong academic or practical knowledge of RF theory, particularly as applied to EMI testing across HF, VHF, and UHF.
• Familiarity with RF tools, measurement equipment, and common components.
• Ability to create and document test plans and write technical reports.
• Ability to define or evaluate performance requirements tied to E3 field limits.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholder groups.
• Bachelor’s degree in a qualified engineering field plus one year of systems engineering experience
OR 12 credit hours of coursework covering ISO/IEC 15288 Technical Process Areas
OR High school diploma/GED plus four years of general systems engineering experience.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing.
• Experience with electromagnetic interference (EMI) mitigation techniques.
• Experience with antenna calibration.

What Makes This Role Exciting

You’ll work at the intersection of RF engineering and systems engineering—supporting a mission where precision, creativity, and technical rigor truly matter. This is an excellent opportunity for an early‑career engineer looking to expand their systems engineering skill set in a highly collaborative and mission‑focused environment.
