The United States Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC) at Los Angeles Air Force Base, California is searching for a Physical Security Specialist (NH-0080-03, GS 12/13 equivalent).

Description:
Serve your country by protecting its most vital secrets. Space Systems Command acquires and fields cutting-edge solutions in space to protect the Nation, its citizens, and its allies-solutions that must be protected to ensure continual, long-term support. In this role, you will be a critical part of the team that ensures the Nation's secrets are preserved and unrevealed. You will provide essential physical security advice, support, and oversight to ensure the engineering and integration of space systems capabilities occurs only in the appropriate and approved locations.

The ideal candidate will possess an in-depth knowledge of Space Systems Command and the ability to effectively lead, motivate, and guide the workforce. You must be skilled at operating within a dynamic organizational structure and exhibit a mastery of problem-solving, with the ability to understand and address complex challenges. This role requires excellent oral and written communication skills and a proven ability to establish and maintain relationships with key individuals both within and outside the immediate work unit. We are looking for a professional with a Top-Secret clearance who is intimately familiar with Special Access Program security processes, ICD 705, and DoDM 5205.07. A bachelor's degree, leadership experience, and five or more years supporting SAP programs are highly preferred, along with SPēD Security Fundamentals (SFPC) and Special Program Security (SPSC) certifications.

Key Skills and Abilities:
1. Master-level knowledge of multi-disciplinary security principles and mastery of the program management skills required to implement them.
2. Skill in providing expert-level security consultation and strategic advisory services to senior program managers, engineers, and external partners.
3. Mastery of integrated risk management methodologies and analytical techniques.
4. Ability to lead, influence, and build coalitions across a diverse range of high-level organizations.
5. Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
6. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and determine resource requirements; determine goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinate with other organizations; monitor progress, and evaluate outcomes.
7. Ability to identify problems and use sound judgment and decisions to generate and evaluate alternatives and make recommendations.
8. Skill in conducting substantial coordination among a variety of organizations and high-level managers to identify and integrate internal and external program issues affecting the organization or agency, such as integrating oversight and compliance programs with other programs of equivalent scope and complexity as well as those involving other technical, financial, organizational, and administrative factors. Ability to collaborate at appropriate levels with organizations both inside and outside SSC, the Space Force, DoD and its agencies, the Intelligence Community, and the Federal Government.
9. Skill and ability to speak and write effectively, to address highly complex technical and controversial issues (frequently in terms understandable to non-technical personnel), serve as senior consultant to agency management officials, prepare and give briefings, chair meetings, lead task forces, and prepare reports and statements for senior military (General Officer/SES), government, and private sector management officials.

  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance with SCI access.
  • Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.
  • Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) required.
  • May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments.
  • May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
  • Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 30 days per year.
  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period.
  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.
  • This position will close after 5 business days or 75 applications, whichever comes first.
