Job Description
The Crypto/COMSEC Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with communications security (COMSEC) requirements in support of MIDS JTRS and Tactical Data Link (TDL) systems across both domestic operations and Foreign Military Sales (FMS) activities. The specialist provides subject matter expertise in cryptographic key management, handling, safeguarding, and accountability in accordance with NSA, DoD, and program-specific policies and procedures. This role includes traveling to domestic and international locations to support COMSEC operations, ensuring proper material control, secure implementation, and operational readiness in diverse environments.
The Crypto/COMSEC Specialist supports the Program Office by coordinating with Government, Industry, and foreign partner stakeholders to ensure compliant use of COMSEC equipment and keying material. This position directly impacts mission assurance, interoperability, and certification readiness by enforcing COMSEC procedures, supporting inspections and audits, resolving discrepancies, and proactively mitigating security risks associated with cryptographic systems and operations.
CORE FUNCTIONS / JOB DUITES
The Entry level Crypto/COMSEC Specialist will be able to perform the following, with guidance:
Assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of radio, microwave, and communications systems hardware and firmware.
Assist with programing, optimization, and repair of radios and associated communications equipment.
Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot issues with radio and communications systems and equipment, and provide appropriate feedback to internal stakeholders.
Accurately record radio repairs and maintenance, and equipment inventory.
Provide technical support and assist customers with radio sand communication system operations for daily use and in support of various test events, including off-site support as needed.
Use various test analyzers and related troubleshooting equipment.
Provide required periodic input to pre-test and post-test documentation (e.g. Test Plan, Test Procedures, automated scripts, Daily Status Reports (DSR), Quick Look Reports (QLR), and Test Reports.
Assist in the planning and coordination of working groups and day to day operations on radio/communication systems Test & Evaluation (T&E) and development efforts.
Assist in the development of design plans based on site surveys supporting installation & integration of various radios and communication systems.
Qualify as and provide support as a CMS custodian.
The Intermediate level Crypto/COMSEC Specialist will be able to perform the following, with some supervision:
Install, configure, and maintain radio, microwave, and communications systems hardware and firmware.
Program, optimize, and repair radios and associated communications equipment.
Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot issues with radio and communications systems and equipment, and provide appropriate feedback to internal and external stakeholders.
Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance, and equipment inventory.

An Entry level Crypto/COMSEC Specialist will have a foundational understanding of the following:
DoD regulations and industry standards
Various tools and test instruments used in performing maintenance and repair of electronic equipment.
Tactical Data Link (TDL) Systems, communication Systems, and associated interfaces, computer control, and in-line and/or embedded encryption equipment.
An Intermediate level Crypto/COMSEC Specialist will have a basic knowledge of:
Radio, microwave, and communication systems, test equipment, and electronic components
DoD regulations and industry standards
Various tools and test instruments used in performing maintenance and repair of electronic equipment
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS
GED and/or equivalent years of experience

*Pay level will be determined by the selected candidates job duties, knowledge, and experience*
ENTRY: $80,000.00 to $105,000.00 annual salary, DOE
INTERMEDIATE: $100,000.00 to $125,000.00 annual salary, DOE

SECURITY CLEARANCE
Candidates must have an active clearance OR the ability to obtain a US Government security clearance and will be subject to a US security background investigation (i.e. favorable background investigation / credit score). Additional eligibility requirements for access to various levels of classified information may also be required. An active security clearance is highly desirable.
