Overview:

The Storage Specialist supports warehouse optimization and inventory accuracy within a complex distribution environment at DLA San Diego. This role requires at least three years of experience in warehouse operations, including two years of recent experience using automated warehouse management systems (WMS). The specialist works closely with Government Storage and Storage Analyst personnel to ensure storage locations in WMS accurately reflect physical bin dimensions, labeling, naming conventions, and planography layouts. Responsibilities include maintaining data integrity, identifying underutilized storage locations, and executing re-warehousing efforts to improve space utilization, increase storage density, streamline picking efficiency, and create capacity for incoming inventory.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Government Storage Specialist to maintain systemic storage bin locations in WMS.
  • Verifying that bins accurately match the dimensions and characteristics of the physical storage location.
  • All bins are properly labeled and marked, and are accurately represented on the associated planography drawing with the Government Storage Analyst.
  • Ensure requirements identified in Section 5.3.2 are being adhered to whil also identifying occupied locations in WMS that fall below 50% density.
  • Direct re-warehousing that reduces multiple locations for the same materiel, increases overall density for the distribution center, improves pick time for faster moving materiel, and results in additional vacant locations for new inductions.
  • Maintain physical storage, control, and segregation of hazardous materials in accordance with compatibility codes and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate material movement with government and contractor personnel to ensure on-time delivery to work sites or storage areas.
  • Track and manage inventory levels, shelf-life items, and reorder points to prevent delays in maintenance support.

Education and/or Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in warehouse operations similar to the size and complexity to the operations.
  • Experience will include a minimum of 2 years of experience using automated warehouse management systems within the past 5 years


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to read and interpret safety data sheets, government regulations, and technical documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage critical material data with integrity and accuracy.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Forklift certification (or ability to obtain).


Security Clearance:

Position requires U.S. Citizenship, a U.S. Government background check, and may require a U.S. Government SECRET Clearance.

  • If SECRET Clearance Level is required, candidate must also:
  • Have a current U.S. Government SECRET Personnel Security Clearance or be able to successfully complete a U.S. Government-administered investigation.
  • Be able to maintain a U.S. Government SECRET clearance.

Work Environment:

Work is performed in a warehouse. May require flexible hours or emergency response support during mission-critical operations. Travel may be required based on business demands.
