Torch Technologies is seeking a Technical Writer to support the documentation and communication efforts for aviation data transfer systems and emerging capabilities. This role involves translating complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation for various audiences.

As a Technical Writer your duties will include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Create and maintain technical documentation for aviation data transfer software, middleware, APIs, interfaces, and operational workflows.
  • Develop user guides, administrator guides, interface control support materials, installation procedures, release notes, and test or training documentation.
  • Work closely with software engineers, cybersecurity staff, testers, and system engineers to capture technical details and convert them into clear written products.
  • Document data flows, transfer mechanisms, operational procedures, exception handling, and support concepts for modernized systems.
  • Organize and standardize content so documentation is consistent, searchable, version-controlled, and aligned to program expectations.
  • Support development of diagrams, tables, process descriptions, and structured content that improve comprehension of complex technical subjects.
  • Review documents for clarity, accuracy, completeness, formatting quality, and alignment with customer or organizational standards.
  • Assist with documentation updates tied to software releases, requirement changes, system enhancements, and audit or review actions.
  • Support creation of artifacts used in technical reviews, milestone events, training, and sustainment handoff.
  • Help maintain a disciplined documentation process that integrates with configuration management and release activities.


Required Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree in an applicable technical field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of engineering writing experience.
  • Active secret clearance and ability to maintain clearance is required to start.
  • Experience writing and editing technical documentation for software, systems, or IT environments.
  • Ability to understand technical concepts such as APIs, middleware, data exchange workflows, networking basics, and modern software architectures.
  • Experience developing structured documents, procedures, guides, and supporting visual content for technical audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail, document quality, and version control discipline.
  • Ability to gather information from engineers and subject matter experts and synthesize it into concise, accurate documentation.
  • Proficiency with modern documentation and office tools, including document formatting and collaborative review workflows.
  • Excellent written communication, editing, and organizational skills.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting aviation, aerospace, defense, or mission systems documentation.
  • Familiarity with C#, .NET, REST APIs, middleware, and software development terminology.
  • Experience developing documentation tied to formal program deliverables, review events, or controlled baselines.
  • Ability to create or refine workflow diagrams, architecture summaries, and quick-reference materials.
  • Experience in Agile or DevSecOps environments where documentation evolves with the product.
