About The Role
The Office of Space Weather Observations (SWO) under NESDIS is responsible for advancing space weather observational capabilities to meet NOAA programmatic needs. NOAA's Space Weather Next (SWX) program maintains and extends space weather observations from various vantage points, selected to most efficiently provide comprehensive knowledge of the Sun and the near-Earth space environment needed to protect our technological infrastructure.
The Space Weather Ground Services (SWGS) is responsible for comprehensive ground services for all SWX projects, ensuring successful implementation and operation of observing assets and ensuring the continuity of space weather measurements made by SWFO-L1 and the GOES-R series satellites.
The SWGS Mission Operations Services (MOS) program must provide a full mission satellite command and control solution to support the L1 Series with two new independently launched observatories.
Overview:
Peraton is seeking a Cloud Systems Engineer with a focus on designing, deploying and managing a highly available, scalable AWS infrastructure for satellite Command & Control (C2) and data processing. The cloud engineer will leverage software to configure, scale and manage virtual resources in a cloud environment. The candidate will focus on developing a secure, scalable cloud infrastructure for a new satellite ground system supporting the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
This role requires close collaboration with other program functional elements including Cyber Engineering, Systems Engineering Integration and Test (SEIT), Software Engineering, Networks, Infrastructure, Systems Architects, Operations and program leadership.
**This position is contingent on contract award.**

Target Salary Range: $104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.

- Provide technical expertise for the design and implementation of cloud computing techniques and technologies to the program
- Design, deploy and maintain scalable and highly available computing and storage solutions
- Implement and optimize cloud-based architectures
- Optimize and implement memory management identifying the best ways to maximize performance while controlling costs
- Support data integration and migration efforts, including mapping schemas, and defining domain specific functionality, where applicable
- Work with team members from a variety of engineering specialties to troubleshoot and solve technical problems
- Support a range of clients from front line analysts to researchers and senior leadership
- Work as a key contributor on a collaborative, fast-growing, and highly skilled engineering and development team

Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 3 years with MS/MA
- 9 years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree
- Knowledge of Cloud computing technologies and architectures to include experience designing and implementing CI/CD Pipelines, DevSecOps frameworks, application containerization and core Amazon Web Services
- Strong understanding of IP networking, firewalls, and data encryption, particularly with IAM and secure access to sensitive space assets
- Understanding how to deploy compute instances, manage storage, configure networking, databases and integrate cloud services
- Ability to automate tasks and manage workflows using Python, Bash or PowerShell
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) design and implementation to include tools like Terraform, CloudFormation and Ansible
- AWS Certified Cloud Architect or similar cloud certifications
- Ability to obtain and hold a Public Trust clearance - US Citizenship is required
Desired Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Docker and Kubernetes/EKS for deploying and managing containerized applications
- Experience with implementing and using artificial intelligence and machine learning tools
- Knowledge of NIST security framework and security controls to maintain compliance for Government systems
- Experience working within a distributed virtual team environment, with proficiency in remote collaboration tools and practices
- Experience working on a satellite ground system with understanding of NOAA and NASA organizations and processes
- Experience working in Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environments or similar Agile methodologies and experience with Jira/ Confluence Atlassian tools
- Strong interpersonal skills with a willingness to foster strong relationships with coworkers, vendors and stakeholders
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
