Description
On the Human Health and Performance Contract 2 we are at the forefront of safeguarding astronaut health, ensuring human performance, and advancing technologies for human space exploration. We are seeking a Experiment Support Scientist (ESS) at the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, TX.
What You’ll Do:
In the role of a Research Operations & Integration Experiment Support Scientist (ESS), you will support the implementation of research projects on the utilization platforms used by the Human Research Program, which includes but is not limited to the International Space Station (ISS), Artemis, and Analogs. An ESS is assigned to several experiments of varying complexities and are responsible for acting as a liaison between the investigators and NASA to represent their scientific concerns. An ESS will translate experiment requirements that can be implemented in a flight or analog environment, write crew procedures, plan mission activities, assist in crew training, support mission specific real-time activities, and provide a variety of related services.
You will:
- Serve as a science liaison between principal investigators (PI) of assigned experiments and the ROI team, including keeping PIs informed of schedules and implementation issues which require their attention and participation, and serving as advocator of PI issues to the JSC team.
- Ensure that all data and sample collections for assigned experiments are scheduled in accordance with each experiment’s constraints and requirements and that all hardware, software, and supporting personnel are prepared to support the collections.
- Provide science implementation expertise to assigned experiments including: (1) Definition, development, and management of science requirements; (2) Science support to NASA Increment or Complement Scientists at science meetings; (3) Real-time console support for assigned experiments as required during mission activities.
- Proactive schedule and technical risk management for all aspects of experiment support.
- Coordinate with the PI on human use protocols, recommend updates as required, and ensure that all training and data collection activities are in conformance with human use approvals.
- Prepare for and support crew training by ensuring facilities, consumables, and hardware and test subjects are available as required.
Create and validate detailed experiment procedures, checklists, and cue cards (for both nominal and off-nominal scenarios).
- Develop and demonstrate the interpersonal skills required to maintain productive working relationships with co-workers, management, and the customer.
What You Bring:
You bring experience leading cross-program integration and coordination. You use your experience and judgment to distribute crew data per the guidelines for both research and medical data. You comply with KBR’s Safety, Health and Environmental Plan, Quality Plan, and all safety policies and procedures, and complete all assigned training.
Your Qualifications:
Required: B.S. degree in a science field with less than 2 years of experience
Desired: NASA internship experience.
This position requires the eligibility to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
Your Skills:
- Excellent oral/written communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to multitask is essential.
- Ability to support periodic console work outside of standard business hours.
Desired:
- Familiarity with NASA project development and flight operations processes

This position requires on-site presence and allows for occasional work from home; no more than 2 days per week. Minimal to no travel is required.
