Job Description
About the Role
The UI/UX Experience Designer (Senior) is responsible for leading the research, design, and delivery of intuitive, accessible, and visually compelling user experiences across web and application platforms. This role drives the end-to-end design process from user research and information architecture through wireframing, prototyping, and high-fidelity interface design ensuring that products are both user-centered and aligned with mission objectives.
The Senior UI/UX Designer collaborates with product owners, developers, and stakeholders to translate complex requirements into elegant, usable interfaces. This role also establishes design standards, mentors junior designers, and champions a culture of user-centered design across the organization. The ideal candidate brings a strong portfolio, deep expertise in modern design tools and methodologies, and a passion for creating experiences that make complex systems accessible.
You Will
• Lead the design of user interfaces and experiences for web applications, portals, dashboards, and mobile platforms.
• Conduct user research activities, including stakeholder interviews, user surveys, contextual inquiries, usability testing, and persona development.
• Create information architectures, user flows, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups using tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD.
• Develop and maintain a design system, including reusable UI components, style guides, typography standards, and accessibility guidelines.
• Collaborate with front-end developers to ensure accurate, pixel-perfect implementation of designs, providing specs, assets, and guidance throughout development.
• Advocate for accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA/AAA, Section 508) and ensure all designs meet compliance requirements.
• Present design concepts, rationale, and research findings to stakeholders and leadership, incorporating feedback into iterative design cycles.
• Conduct heuristic evaluations and usability audits of existing applications, identifying opportunities for improvement.
• Partner with product owners and development teams to define requirements, prioritize features, and balance user needs with technical constraints.
• Mentor junior designers, providing guidance on design methodology, tools, and professional growth.
• Stay current with UI/UX trends, emerging design patterns, and industry best practices.
Desired Skills and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in User Experience Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• 8+ years of professional UI/UX design experience, with a strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end design work across complex applications.
• Expert-level proficiency with modern design tools (Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or InVision).
• Deep experience with user research methodologies, including usability testing, A/B testing, card sorting, and journey mapping.
• Strong knowledge of interaction design principles, information architecture, and responsive/adaptive design.
• Thorough understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1, Section 508, ADA) and experience designing compliant interfaces.
• Experience building and maintaining design systems and component libraries.
• Working knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) sufficient to collaborate effectively with development teams.
• Familiarity with agile development methodologies and experience working within Scrum or Kanban teams.
• Excellent visual design skills, including typography, color theory, layout, and iconography.
• Strong presentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience designing for government, DoD, or enterprise environments is a plus.
• UX certification (Nielsen Norman Group, HFI, or equivalent) is desirable but not required.
Security Clearance
• Active TS (Willing to get CI/Poly)
