Systems Engineer (Infrared Signatures Team)

Full-Time with an Employee-Owned and Best Places to Work Certified Contractor

Onsite at Schriever Space Force Base, CO

Experienced System Engineer to work with the Infrared Hard Body (IRHB) Signatures Production team at the Missile Defense Agency's (MDA's) Threat Modeling Center (TMC) as a system engineer. This position is responsible for capturing and documenting requirements as they pertain to the infrared signature representation of a missile as well as developing infrared hard body missile threat models for use in a variety of modeling and simulation tools/frameworks/media.

Responsibilities:
  • Capture and document requirements for infrared signature representation of missile systems
  • Develop and maintain Infrared Hard Body (IRHB) models for use across modeling and simulation frameworks
  • Analyze and simulate IR signature phenomenology, including hard body heating effects and IR intensity outputs
  • Perform Verification & Validation (V&V) of IR signature models and associated datasets
  • Support Ground Test Modeling & Simulation events through timely data production and delivery
  • Collaborate with software engineers to support tool development and integration for ITP production
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to develop and update models for new and existing missile systems
  • Contribute to automation and tool improvements to increase production efficiency
  • Execute tasks on defined schedules to meet mission and leadership objectives


Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
  • Active Secret Clearance required
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a STEM-related field
  • Level 2: 2+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree (Or Master's degree and 0 years of experience)
  • Level 3: 5+ years of relevant experience (Or Master's degree and 3+ years experience; Or a PhD and 1+ year)
  • Experience with modeling and simulation (M&S) and technical data analysis
  • Familiarity with missile flight characteristics, motion, and performance
  • Knowledge of infrared (IR) signature physics, including hard body heating effects
  • Experience with Verification and Validation (V&V) of simulation data
  • Experience with scripting/automation tools (Python, Bash, MATLAB)
  • Understanding of modeling and simulation methodologies and processes

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong math, physics and/or engineering background is preferred
  • Previous experience with analyzing flight characteristics, motion, atmospheric dynamics, and missile performance parameters of ballistic missiles is highly desirable
  • Strong background in missile system engineering performance
  • Mastery of engineering modeling principles behind body motion, trajectory analysis, counter measures, debris, and signature modeling is a plus
  • Background in IR Signatures modeling
  • Familiarity with Optical Signatures Code (OSC)
  • Experience in Agile software development methodologies including Scrum and Kanban
