• Performs safety surveys and inspections of the hospital and support facilities.
• Prepares written reports of inspections detailing problems observed, standards violated and recommended corrective action.
• Serves as program manager for selected safety programs.
• Investigates personal injuries and property damage incidents and mishaps to determine causes and recommend corrective actions required to prevent a reoccurrence.
• Participates in pre-construction conferences with local military and contractor personnel.
• Serve as the technical authority on Fire and Life Safety (creating, implementing and training staff on Interim Life Saving Measures - ILSM, etc.).
• Responsible for coordinating the annual and quarterly fire drills for all business and healthcare occupancy buildings and documentation and training.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
• Lifting up to 15 pounds may be required.
• This position may require occasional shift work to coordinate the quarterly fire drills.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in the Federal service, in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position which includes developing and recommending new safety programs; applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, or procedures to the Medical treatment facility; surveying workplaces to determine possible hazards; identifying improvements/corrections to processes and ensuring follow-up recommendations are completed. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

OR

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
