- You will use a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) program to determine information pertaining to specific locations or hazards associated with an incident.
- You will operate a central computerized phone system console (e.g., multi-line 911 systems, Reverse 911 system, other equivalent communication device) to interpret and relay emergency information.
- You will prioritize incoming calls or reports of an emergency to verify emergency resources are dispatched by severity of situation and manpower availability.
- You will explain information to emergency personnel (e.g., law enforcement, emergency medical services [EMS], fire personnel) to dispatch personnel to the reported incident.
- Incumbent is required to successfully complete the RDC Training Program to include classroom and On-The-Job Training (OJT).

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
- Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
- Incumbent is required to successfully complete the RDC Training Program to include classroom and On-The-Job Training (OJT).
- Incumbent must be able to read information on computer screens, and clearly see images on the CCTV with color vision adequate to distinguish between green, red, and yellow lights on alarm and equipment control panels.
- Incumbent must be able to use a computer keyboard.
- Incumbent must be able to write and speak English clearly and distinctly so that they are easily understood over the telephone and radio and documentation is easily readable.
- Incumbent must be able to clearly hear conversations over the phone and radio regardless of the age or sex of the caller.
- Incumbent must be able to distinguish between different audible alarm tones used in dispatch. Incumbent may use hearing correction devices to augment their natural hearing in order to meet the requirements listed.
- During emergencies, employees may be required to work long periods without breaks.
Qualifications
GS-11
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Provides full supervision for all aspects of 24/7 Regional Dispatch Center (RDC) Dispatcher and Shift Lead personnel.
- Develops performance standards and then evaluates work performance for year-end performance evaluations for dispatch personnel to achieve objectives and other assigned projects in the line of work.
- Advises and confers with the Director, Emergency Services, the Fire Chief, the Chief, Law Enforcement on the range of issues having to do with the policies, the technical communications and computerized equipment, protocols, and after-action assessment of dispatch operations conducted by the 911 Dispatch Center.
- Advises and confers with DON, county, state and foreign officials where applicable on dispatch and communications issues, policy, protocol, etc.
GS-09

- Plans, directs, coordinates, schedules, trains and evaluates the work of subordinate staff to ensure effective courses of action are taken in various dispatch situations.
- Maintains a balanced workload, ensures leave is distributed appropriately between all subordinates, preparing shift schedules to ensure adequate manpower is maintained within the dispatch center .
- Provides information and guidance to all subordinates on professional and personal issues to provide precise and accurate information in various situations.
