Position Summary

The VCF Automation Architect is responsible for designing and guiding automation solutions for VMware Cloud Foundation environments to support customer and business outcomes. This role focuses on hands-on automation architecture, including translating operational and technical requirements into scalable workflows, repeatable deployment patterns, and efficient platform management practices.

This position works closely with clients, consultants, and internal stakeholders to ensure automation solutions are aligned to infrastructure, networking, security, and lifecycle management requirements. The architect regularly uses VMware Cloud Foundation platforms, automation frameworks, and infrastructure management tools and is expected to operate independently, communicate clearly, and deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced consulting environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and document automation architectures for VMware Cloud Foundation environments, including provisioning, lifecycle management, and operational workflows

  • Lead discovery sessions and design discussions to gather customer requirements and identify automation opportunities

  • Translate infrastructure and operational requirements into scalable, repeatable automation solutions

  • Provide architectural guidance to delivery teams during automation implementation and deployment

  • Develop standards for orchestration, workflow design, and automation governance across VCF environments

  • Partner with infrastructure, networking, and security teams to ensure automation solutions align with overall platform architecture

  • Identify manual processes, operational bottlenecks, and risks and recommend automation-driven improvements

  • Maintain clear design documentation, workflow diagrams, and standards for delivery and operational handoff

  • Support troubleshooting and refinement of automation solutions during implementation and transition to operations

Required Qualifications

  • Current experience delivering automation solutions within VMware Cloud Foundation or software-defined data center environments

  • Current experience supporting enterprise, multi-site, or hybrid cloud infrastructure environments

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams across infrastructure, operations, networking, and security

  • Experience designing and implementing automation solutions for VMware-based infrastructure environments

  • Strong familiarity with VMware Cloud Foundation, virtualization, networking, and storage concepts and automation tools i.e. vRealize Automation/vRealize Orchestrator/vRA/vRO/Aria Automation/Aria Orchestrator

  • Experience with infrastructure automation, orchestration, or scripting in enterprise environments

  • Experience contributing to or leading technical design discussions for automation or platform engineering initiatives

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliverables across client engagements

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in client-facing environments

Required Skills

  • Customer Consulting and Advisory: Ability to lead customer discussions, identify automation opportunities, and translate business and technical requirements into automation strategies

  • VCF Automation Design: Ability to design repeatable automation solutions for provisioning, lifecycle management, and operational processes within VMware Cloud Foundation environments

  • Infrastructure Automation Expertise: Ability to use scripting, orchestration, or infrastructure-as-code approaches to improve consistency, scalability, and efficiency

  • Platform Integration: Ability to design automation that works across compute, network, storage, and management layers

  • Technical Problem Solving: Ability to diagnose issues in automated workflows and refine solutions during implementation

  • Documentation and Communication: Ability to create clear workflow diagrams, design documents, and communicate effectively with technical and business stakeholders

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ability to work across infrastructure, operations, and security teams to ensure successful automation delivery
