Job Description
Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Z/OS System Programmer to support a company focused on providing secure, high-availability mainframe infrastructure in support of federal government operations. This position is remote. The Z/OS System Programmer will provide full lifecycle support for IBM z/OS environments, ensuring system performance, security, and disaster recovery readiness across a large-scale Parallel Sysplex architecture. This role directly supports the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) mission by maintaining resilient systems critical to federal workforce operations.

Responsibilities for the Z/OS System Programmer include:
- Providing day-to-day systems programming support for z/OS (2.5 and 3.1) and related IBM and third-party products
- Installing, configuring, and upgrading z/OS components including JES2, TCP/IP, VTAM, RACF, SMP/E, and IBM z/Workload Scheduler 10.2
- Supporting IBM enterprise servers (z13-z17) within a multi-LPAR Parallel Sysplex and Coupling Facility environment
- Performing system performance monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting using SMF, RMF, and related tools
- Executing IPLs, HMC profile updates, Disaster Recovery exercises, and maintaining audit-ready documentation
Required Qualifications for the Z/OS System Programmer include:
- 10+ years of experience as a z/OS Systems Programmer in large enterprise environments
- Strong expertise with Sysplex, Coupling Facility, JES2, SMP/E, TCP/IP, VTAM, RACF, CICS, USS, and IBM Workload Scheduler
- Proficiency in COBOL (v6.2, v5.2, v4.2), Assembler, and REXX for utilities and automation; experience with SMF/RMF performance analysis
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent professional experience
- Must be able to obtain or maintain a public trust
Compensation for the Z/OS System Programmer include:
- Salary Range: $105,000 - $125,000 depending on experience
