Job Description
Duties
1. Employee carries out recurring assignments independently; Conducts successive activities with objectives and priorities identified by supervisor or team leader; assistance given on new or unusual projects or situations.
2. Provides legal assistance support for Staff Judge Advocate and other staff attorneys, to include sitting at the office front desk, answering phone calls, screening and handling all clients and customers entering the legal office, and both preparing a variety of Powers of Attorney and then providing notary signatures for prepared Powers of Attorney and other legal documents.
3. Performs other administrative and clerical duties in support of the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, to include in taking Claims submitted by clients, adjudicating and managing those Claims, and engaging with both Headquarters, clients, and insurance companies as needed to resolve claims.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NK-01, equivalent to the next to lower grade GS-04 or equivalent in the Federal Service. Specialized experience must include; 1) responding to written requests, telephone inquiries, and personal visits from persons seeking information concerning the responsibilities and activities of an organization; 2) assisting in the maintenance of files for legal documents, correspondence, and projects in accordance with internal security procedures; 3) organizing and maintaining physical and digital case files following organizational guidelines, policies, and procedures; and 4) prepare various reports and forms, such as time and attendance reports, training forms, and performance appraisals. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of extensive rules, procedures, or operations applied to administrative and legal assignments to perform the procedural and administrative work of the office, such as preparing and editing documents, maintaining files/records, and locating, assembling and composing information for various reports, inquiries, and nontechnical correspondence.
2. Knowledge of office functions and commitments of supervisor and staff to prepare and review correspondence, to screen telephone calls and visitors, and to perform other substantive or administrative work of the organization.
3. Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and format to accurately prepare and edit written correspondence and reports.
4. Knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools, and techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of documents such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, databases, and graphs.
5. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
