Degree: microbiology; or biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included at least 20 semester hours in microbiology and other subjects related to the study of microorganisms, and 20 semester hours in the physical and mathematical sciences combining course work in organic chemistry or biochemistry, physics, and college algebra, or their equivalent.
OR
Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in microbiology, biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

This position is in the Microbiology and Immunology Department, Biological Defense Research Directorate (BDRD), Naval Medical Research Command (NMRC)-Frederick Detachment, located at the US Army Fort Detrick Garrison in Frederick, Maryland. The Directorate's mission is to provide laboratory-based bio-surveillance support, develop/produce detection reagents against infectious diseases of military importance and public health concerns and conduct research on novel treatment modalities to protect our deployed military personnel in support of Force Health Protection efforts. The incumbent serves as a Principal Investigator at the Microbiology and Immunology Department supporting and leading medical product research, development of medical solutions and advancement in the fields of infectious diseases to include virology, bacterioloty, toxins, and immunology.
This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.

- You will support a complex medical research portfolio and production of serological reagents.
- You will serve as an independent investigator and be responsible for conducting original research.
- You will provide direction to a multi-disciplinary research team with guidance from the Department Head.
- You will use program management knowledge to support the management of the department's research projects.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment occupational health physical examination.
- Expected to obtain essential immunizations as required by the Safety and Occupational Health Office including influenza.
