We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer (Testing and Quality Assurance) to lead comprehensive testing, validation, and quality assurance activities within a Federal cloud environment. This role is responsible for developing and executing test strategies across infrastructure, integration, performance, and security domains to ensure solutions meet functional requirements and federal compliance standards, including RMF and ATO requirements. The engineer will support large-scale, mission-critical systems and establish repeatable testing frameworks that ensure quality, reliability, and scalability across complex, multi-system environments.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop and implement comprehensive test strategies covering functional, integration, performance, security, and compliance testing.

• Create detailed test plans aligned with federal security control validation and RMF/ATO requirements.

• Define test environments, test data requirements, and testing infrastructure to support end-to-end validation.

• Establish testing schedules, milestones, and success criteria for system deployments.

• Coordinate testing activities across development, infrastructure, and security teams.

• Validate container platform deployments including orchestration, scaling, and failover capabilities.

• Test infrastructure-as-code implementations for consistency, repeatability, and compliance with established baselines.

• Verify load balancing configurations including health checks, routing rules, and secure communication protocols.

• Validate network configurations including segmentation, access controls, and high availability design.

• Test backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures to ensure compliance with recovery objectives.

• Design and execute integration test cases across multiple systems, APIs, and data workflows.

• Validate data transformation accuracy, completeness, and consistency across integration points.

• Execute end-to-end functional testing of system workflows and business processes.

• Validate implementation of security controls aligned with NIST 800-53 requirements.

• Test authentication, authorization, encryption, and access control mechanisms.

• Perform vulnerability testing and validate remediation of identified security findings.

• Validate audit logging, traceability, and compliance with federal requirements.

• Support penetration testing activities and verify remediation outcomes.

• Design and execute performance and load testing scenarios to evaluate system scalability and reliability.

• Identify performance bottlenecks and validate system behavior under peak and stress conditions.

• Measure and validate system performance against defined service level objectives.

• Develop and implement automated testing frameworks and regression test suites.

• Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines for continuous validation.

• Create reusable test scripts and scalable testing frameworks for enterprise deployments.

• Manage defect tracking, reporting, and resolution verification.

• Maintain traceability between requirements, test cases, and validation outcomes.

• Develop test reports, compliance artifacts, and documentation supporting ATO processes.

• Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and security teams to support defect resolution and validation.

• Participate in architecture reviews to ensure testability and quality considerations are incorporated early.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

• 5-7 years of experience in quality assurance, testing, systems engineering, or cloud engineering roles, including at least 3 years of experience testing complex cloud-based systems (preferably AWS environments) and 2+ years of hands-on experience with automated testing frameworks and tools.

• Proficiency in developing test strategies, plans, and test case design.

• Experience with multiple testing methodologies including functional, integration, regression, performance, and security testing.

• Hands-on experience with automated testing frameworks such as Selenium, pytest, JUnit, or similar tools.

• Experience with performance testing tools such as JMeter, Gatling, Locust, or equivalent.

• Knowledge of security testing practices including vulnerability scanning and security control validation.

• Experience with defect tracking and management tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps.

• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation and test data generation.

• Understanding of AWS cloud services and testing considerations for distributed systems.

• Knowledge of API testing tools and methodologies.

• Experience with data validation and ETL testing principles.

• Understanding of NIST 800-53 security controls and RMF processes.

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail.

• Ability to create comprehensive documentation supporting compliance and audit requirements.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED:

• Experience supporting federal or DoD environments with ATO accreditation processes.

• Familiarity with container platforms and testing containerized applications.

• Experience with enterprise monitoring tools for validating system behavior and performance.

• Knowledge of advanced test automation and continuous testing practices.

• Experience with data analytics platforms and reporting validation.

• Familiarity with test data management, masking, and PII protection strategies.

• Experience supporting large-scale, high-availability enterprise systems.

• Knowledge of performance optimization and capacity planning techniques.

EDUCATION:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
