The Joint, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Interagency Division (JOID) provides expert support services to a range of customers spanning across the Department of Defense, Federal Civilian, and international markets. JOID provides a diverse portfolio of analytical and programmatic capabilities to help our customers make informed decisions on their most challenging issues.

JOID assists the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) in developing leading edge technologies to counter WMD in support of Combatant Commands (CCMDs) and transitioning these technologies to military services CCMDs. SPA provides expertise across the full range of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and high-yield explosives (CBRNE) WMD, Counter Improvised Threat and Countering Threat Network technologies to support understanding, detection, identification, characterization, denial, control, disabling, defeating, disposing, safeguarding the force, managing consequences, and test and evaluation in support of military and civilian operations.

We have an immediate need for a Systems Engineer to provide onsite support for DTRA out of Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, NM .

Responsibilities

The candidate will support the DTRA Counter WMD Technologies (CX) Department and the Hardened and Deeply Buried Targets (CXH) Division. As part of a cross-functional team of technical analysts, the candidate will assist DTRA program managers, performers, and customers in the development, demonstration, and transition of innovative capabilities. Key responsibilities include supporting the entire system lifecycle-from concept development through implementation, operational use, and decommissioning. This role will leverage interdisciplinary approaches to evaluate and optimize system functionality, including areas such as operational concepts, requirements definition, system architecture, alternatives analysis, modeling and simulation, integration, technical assessment, risk evaluation, cost analysis, testing, and process improvement. W ill identify potential system challenges, applying quantitative methods and scientific analyses to predict outcomes and assess risks. Develop solutions to enhance functionality and operational efficiency by analyzing all system elements-such as personnel, hardware, software, facilities, policies, and procedures-in a comprehensive, integrated manner.

The role may involve 10-15% travel to support program objectives and to deliver reports or presentations.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in systems engineering or a related STEM field
  • 5+ years of experience in systems engineering
  • Experience with requirements development and management
  • Background in modeling, simulation, and data science
  • Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI
  • Strong personal initiative, professional acumen, and excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Able to work fully onsite based on client needs

Desired:
  • Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in systems engineering or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in three or more defense-related technology areas, such as:
    • Energetics
    • Penetration
    • Lethality/Survivability
    • Targeting/Weaponeering
    • Hypersonics
    • Additive Manufacturing
    • Avionics/Vetronics
    • Safe, Arm, Fuse, Fire (SAFF)
    • Computational Fluid Dynamics/Structural Dynamics Lethality/Survivability
  • Expertise in weapons systems design and analysis
