• Serves as Electronic Technician Expert for highly complex, real-time critical system at the Eastern Range for manned and unmanned space launch as well as other range, missile, and rocket operations
• Provides technical expertise in operation and maintenance of complex and sophisticated systems and equipment.
• System Support Expert. Acts as expert technical consultant to determine whether systems are operationally acceptable and safe within recommended guidelines.
• Provides technical guidance, training and assistance to other technicians and conducts on-the-job (OJT) training to apprentices in all phases of work.

• Indoor and outdoor work at equipment sites requires frequent walking, kneeling, bending, prolonged standing, working in strained and uncomfortable positions, and lifting/carrying moderate (15-44 lbs)

• May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments
• May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis. Subject to shift work, overtime, telephone, and pager standby (on-call) and/or may be required to work an uncommon tour of duty.

• Requires CPR certification and annual occupational exam and the wear of prescribed aural protection device

• The employee is required to maintain proficiency certification on an annual basis and is subject to validation of training certifications via the Quality Assurance evaluation program.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NJ-02, equivalent to the next to lower grade GS-08 or equivalent in the Federal Service. Specialized experience must include knowledge and a thorough understanding of range operations and non-standard equipment to make accurate decisions to restore systems when procedures and guidance documents are not available. Responsible for making immediate equipment repairs, adjustments, or replacements under extreme pressure during terminal count. Develops and institutes changes in procedures to expedite corrective action and updates to procedures. Installs, modifies, test, repairs, overhauls, calibrates, maintains, evaluates, and certifies performance of highly complex integrated and interfacing electronic systems. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

EDUCATION: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education directly related to the position leading to such a degree or LL.B or J.D., if related. NOTE: You must submit a copy of official college transcripts.

COMBINATION OF DIRECTLY RELATED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of Eastern Range launch mission systems and procedures with the ability to operate in high stress environment.
2. In-depth knowledge of a wide range of electronic principles, theories, methods, and engineering tech design details, operating functions and test philosophies associated with mission communications equipment systems and sub-systems for launch operations.
3. Detailed knowledge of a wide range of electronic principles and practices, operation parameters, capabilities, and limitations of electronic systems associated with air traffic control and weather radar equipment; and of systems and component design, capabilities, configurations, limitations, and functional operation; and of various types of electronic logic. Knowledge of safety regulations, procedures, and practices.
4. Skill in the interpretation of technical data such as drawings, schematics, blueprints, and specifications of complete electronic systems; in analyzing problems in integrated/interfacing systems involving numerous complex circuits; and in using complex electronic and electromechanical test and measuring equipment using integrated test functions for different purposes.
5. Ability to modify procedures, adapt equipment or techniques, and make departures from previous approaches to solve technical problems or improve system performance for highly complex electronic systems; to trace electronics logic from one system to another; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships to represent the organization in a professional manner.
6. Ability to use computer terminal to enter and extract data to maintain records and document actions. Knowledge of computer operating systems programs, e.g., Unix, Linux, Sun Solaris; network types; network topologies; transport devices e.g., hubs routers, switches; and data communications equipment.
7. Ability to receive recurring training to update knowledge of systems and procedures. 8. Detailed knowledge of procedures for storage and handling of hazardous materials.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

This is an acquisition demonstration project position NJ-03 equivalent to a GS-09 to GS-11.
