Position Overview
We are seeking a meticulous and experienced Technical Writer/Editor to support a U.S. Navy program. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, writing, editing, and managing a wide range of technical documentation for complex naval systems. You will work closely with engineers, subject matter experts (SMEs), and program personnel to ensure all documentation is clear, accurate, and compliant with all applicable Department of War (DoW) and Navy specifications.
The Technical Writer/Editor will work closely with Government security personnel, program leadership, and contractor team members to ensure compliance with security requirements while enabling mission execution. The Technical Writer/Editor must be capable of operating independently with minimal oversight and supporting a dynamic operational environment.

Key Responsibilities
The Technical Writer shall be capable of performing the following functions with minimal guidance:
- Document Creation & Editing: Author, edit, and proofread technical documents including system manuals, operator guides, maintenance procedures, test plans, technical specifications, and training materials.
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure all documentation adheres to stringent military standards and program-specific style guides.
- SME Collaboration: Proactively collaborate with engineering teams, technicians, and program management to gather and translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and accurate content for the intended audience.
- Document Management: Manage the entire document lifecycle, including version control, review cycles, and archival, utilizing Microsoft Teams and CMPro.
- Quality Assurance: Perform final quality assurance checks on all documents to ensure they are free of grammatical errors, technically accurate, and formatted correctly before delivery.
Job Requirements
Qualifications & Requirements
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
- Demonstrated experience as Technical Writer/Editor or similar role
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, Journalism, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of [3-5] years of professional experience as a technical writer or editor.
- Demonstrated experience working within a DoW, aerospace, hydrography, or defense contractor environment.
- Ability to operate independently in an OCONUS environment
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational setting
- Strong skills in the following:
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a strong command of English grammar and style.
- Proven ability to understand and interpret complex technical concepts, engineering drawings, and schematics.
- High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams) and Adobe Acrobat.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience supporting U.S. Navy or DoD programs
- Experience in deployed or OCONUS environments
