Every map you've ever used, whether for planning, science, or just finding your way, relies on accurate elevation data. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) Seamless 1-Meter Digital Elevation Model (S1M) is one of the most detailed nationwide datasets of its kind, built from lidar and used across countless applications.
This is your chance to join us as a S1M Technician to support USGS. You'll support in taking large lidar datasets, check them thoroughly, fix what doesn't look right, and make sure everything lines up with UGSG standards before it becomes part of The National map. Some days it's about precision and repetition, other days, it's about noticing something subtle that others might miss. You'll also use GIS tools to pull insights from the data, create maps, and help translate raw elevation data into something useful. Requirements
- Must have the ability to receive / maintain a favorable adjudicated Public Trust investigation (US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident for at least 3 years)
- You've achieved a Bachelor's Degree + 2 years of relevant experience
- Experience with ESRI tools (i.e., ArcGIS)
- Real working experience with lidar data
- Familiarity with QGIS and Global Mapper
