Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Operations Research Analyst / Data Scientist to support advanced analytics, modeling, and simulation efforts within a defense and national security environment. This role focuses on solving complex, mission-critical problems through data-driven methodologies, statistical analysis, and simulation modeling.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in mathematics, data science, and experimental design, along with the ability to translate analytical findings into actionable insights for senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Advanced Analytics & Modeling
- Design and execute complex analytical studies using statistical and data science techniques
- Develop and implement simulation models (e.g., ARENA, AFSIM) to evaluate system performance and operational scenarios
- Apply Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies (factorial, D-optimal, Latin Hypercube)
- Conduct time series analysis, regression modeling, clustering, and Bayesian analysis
Data Science & Engineering
- Analyze large datasets using Python, R, MATLAB, and SQL
- Build data pipelines and manage structured datasets
- Perform text mining and NLP using libraries such as NLTK, TensorFlow, and scikit-learn
- Develop data visualizations and dashboards
Mission & System Analysis
- Support defense programs, weapons systems, and operational environments
- Evaluate system performance and recommend improvements
- Conduct verification and validation (V&V)
- Develop predictive models for system reliability
Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead cross-functional teams
- Present findings to senior leadership
- Develop technical briefings and reports
- Collaborate with engineers and program managers
Required Qualifications
- Active Top Secret Clearance
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, or related field
- 15+ years of experience
- Strong expertise in statistical modeling and experimental design
- Proficiency in Python, R, MATLAB, SQL, JMP
- Experience supporting DoD or federal programs
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics or related field
- Experience with AFSIM, ARENA, STK
- Machine learning frameworks (TensorFlow, Keras)
- Weapons systems or aerospace experience
