Job Description

The CH-47 Aircraft Mechanic AM-3 performs the full range of military tactical aircraft maintenance functions including assembly and modification on the assigned aircraft (CH-47), their major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, and related systems.
  • Perform the full range of military tactical aircraft maintenance.
  • Install, connect, and adjust complete systems such as fuel, heat, lubrication, hydraulic, engine, and transmission: install and align fuselage parts; balances, aligns, and installs tail rotor assemblies; rig complete flight control systems.
  • Incorporate authorized modifications and changes.
  • Make operational checks of hydraulic and fuel systems using external power sources and powered ground equipment.
  • Inspect and troubleshoots to determine cause of malfunctions; disassembles to point of trouble; adjusts, repairs, realigns or replaces defective component or assembly.
  • Direct the work of lower-graded mechanics for complete assembly, modification and checkout of the entire aircraft and coordinates with related trades such as electrical, avionics, and sheet metal to assure proper sequence of the complete aircraft assembly process.
  • Knowledge of the makeup, operation, installation and modification of a wide variety of classes, models and series of aircraft, their major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components and related systems.
  • Technical knowledge of the aircraft models and components/sub-assemblies assigned for maintenance, modification and repair.
  • Ability to assemble a variety of system assemblies, and sub-assemblies such as fuel and hydraulic systems, tail boom assemblies, and the power train. Must be able to connect, mesh, align and adjust the system with one another and to determine the sequence of installation of these systems for proper coordination of the entire aircraft assembly process.
  • Able to properly use a variety of common hand tools and measuring devices such as gauges, torque wrenches and scales and test, measurement and diagnostic equipment related to specific aircraft models.
  • Able to trouble shoot and determine when faulty systems or assemblies can/can't be corrected through repair of replacement of new parts and the nature and extent of repair required.
  • Perform other qualified duties as assigned.


Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Five (5) years of recent applicable aircraft maintenance experience is required for employment in Germany.
  • A valid (FAA) A&P Certificate OR an FCC License with Elements 1 and 3 will be Required.
  • Requirements With the FAA (A&P):
  • A valid (FAA) A&P certificate and Two (2) years of Aviation maintenance experience, Three (3) years of Rotary Wing aircraft maintenance and Two (2) years of hands-on maintainer experience on the assigned (CH-47) Mission Design Series MDS is Required.
  • All experience must be within the Five (5) most recent years.
  • Requirements Without a valid (FAA) A&P certificate:
  • Must possess or obtain an FCC License with (Elements 1 and 3) with Three (3) years Aviation maintenance experience, Three (3) years of Rotary wing aircraft maintenance experience And Two (2) years of hands-on maintainer experience on the assigned (CH-47) Mission Design Series (MDS) is Required.
  • All experience must be within the Five (5) most recent years.
  • FCC License - If willing and able to obtain the required FCC License, (with Elements 1 and 3) in lieu of the Required (FAA) A&P Recruiter can provide the information to obtain an FCC License.
  • A valid US Passport is Required for deployment to Germany.
  • Interim NAC-I Public Trust approval is required prior to deployment.
  • Additional OCONUS Travel to austere environments may be required (TDY) in support of the mission task order.

Germany Specific Requirements:
  • TESA Approval: (German Govt) Must be able to qualify for the German TESA approval; with 5 years career total Aviation maintenance experience.


Security Clearance Requirements:
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Govt Security Clearance NAC-I (T1) Public Trust. Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. US Citizenship is Required for facility credentials/authorization to work at this facility.

Knowledge & Skills
  • Shall possess the level of experience necessary to inspect all required aeronautical type maintenance to be performed by skill class Mechanic I and II and must have a combination of experience to repair engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty, required to meet the assigned missions.
  • Shall have a thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, diagnosing problems, repair procedures and replacement of parts require broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair.
  • Shall have thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers.
  • Shall have a working knowledge of making entries in aircraft logbooks & records, military technical publications, utilizing the Army's Logistics Information System (e.g., ACN, ULLS-A).
  • Shall have a basic knowledge of aircraft sheet metal and structural modification and repair.
  • Shall have the ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems.
  • Shall have a detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as cable tensiometers.
  • Ability to read, apply and interpret technical data.


Physical Requirements/Working Environment
  • Must be able to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Frequently lift parts and equipment up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasionally lift objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be immediately deployable to potential austere environments/ combat areas globally.
