JOB TITLE: Microsoft System Administrator, Senior
LOCATION Fort Belvoir, VA
SALARY: $128,000-$165,000 (Compensation is dependent upon qualifications and experience)
EMPLOYEE TYPE: Full-Time Salary Exempt

Employment in this role is conditional upon successful execution of the contract by the client.

The Work
The Microsoft System Administrator, Senior is responsible for the design, implementation, management, optimization, and ongoing support of Microsoft-based infrastructure across the enterprise. The Senior Administrator ensures the availability, reliability, and security of all Microsoft systems, and mentors junior staff while advising IT leadership on best practices and emerging technologies. Collaboration with cybersecurity, application, and network teams is essential to delivering secure and robust IT operations that meet organizational and regulatory needs.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the administrator for Microsoft enterprise systems including, but not limited to, Windows Server environments, Active Directory domain services, Group Policy Objects (GPOs), Microsoft 365, and Microsoft Azure.
  • Design, implement, and maintain highly available, scalable, and secure Microsoft-based systems infrastructure, both on-premises and in cloud/hybrid deployments.
  • Manage Active Directory environments, including user and group provisioning, permissions management, organizational unit (OU) structuring, and AD-integrated DNS/DHCP.
  • Administer Microsoft Exchange and email services, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and other Microsoft 365 collaboration tools.
  • Oversee deployments, patching, upgrades, and security hardening of Windows Server and desktop environments.
  • Develop, document, and enforce system administration standards, operation procedures, and configuration baselines, ensuring consistency and compliance across systems.
  • Monitor system performance, conduct troubleshooting and root-cause analysis, and remediate system outages and performance bottlenecks.
  • Implement and maintain backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies for Microsoft systems.
  • Manage security and compliance by configuring and auditing access controls, security policies, and system logs; respond to audit requests and support cybersecurity initiatives.
  • Support incident response and problem management efforts in collaboration with security and operations teams.
  • Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentorship to junior system administrators and helpdesk personnel.
  • Participate in IT project planning and execution, including requirements analysis, system integration, and migrations of Microsoft workloads.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the latest Microsoft technologies, patch releases, and security advisories.
  • Perform after-hours and on-call support for critical incidents, system maintenance, or project deployments as needed.

Qualifications

  • Top Secret/SCI clearance with SBI and ability to attain SI, TK, G, HCS, and NATO Secret clearance.
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MSCA) or Windows Server 2012/ Windows Server 2016 Certification; DoD 8140.03 IAT Level II /Intermediate certification
  • Eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in server administration, including supporting and managing servers in a production environment.
  • Five (5) years of experience identifying and analyzing server requirements; planning the design and deployment of new technologies and upgrades.
  • Five (5) years of experience applying industry best practices on Windows Server 2016 and later operating systems encompassing configuration, implementation, and security.
  • Eight (8) years of experience on server administration in Microsoft (MS) Windows environments, including MS Windows Server 2016 and later configuration to include performance monitoring, tuning, and making recommendations to improve overall system performance and application efficiency.
  • Four (4) years of management experience. Microsoft Active Directory, DNS, DHCP.
  • Three (3) years of experience serving as a team leader working as both part of a team and independently to assign/review immediate tasks, set priorities, maintain task progress, validate team members' work consistent with the organizational goals and deadlines.
  • Five (5) years of experience mentoring junior personnel on proper practices and procedures. Five years of experience in server administration applying systems patches and STIGs on a Microsoft (MS) Windows Server 2016 and later.
  • Four (4) years of experience using PowerShell and other scripting languages to automate common and repeat tasks.
  • Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
  • Proficient in MS Office, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in an area related to the labor category from a college or university accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Associates degree with 7 years' experience in an intelligence discipline OR High School Diploma with 9 years' experience in an intelligence discipline
