Position Location: Wright Patterson (Dayton), OH (Headquarters is in Massachusetts)

Makai LLC is seeking a skilled MBSE Systems Engineer with expertise in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to support critical Air Force initiatives. We are seeking a Journeyman Systems Engineer where you will play a pivotal part in shaping the future of military systems by defining system requirements, architectures, and interfaces through advanced modeling techniques on the Command, Control, Communications and Battle Management (C3BM) contract. The Systems Engineer will work closely with government stakeholders and various contract teams (cross-functional) to ensure alignment across all system domains. A successful candidate will contribute to the design and evolution of next-generation defense systems, ensuring they are robust, interoperable, and mission-ready.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Capture, decompose, and trace system-level requirements using MBSE practices.
  • Define, analyze, and refine system architectures and interfaces through SysML modeling.
  • Develop system structure and behavior models to support simulation and analysis.
  • Collaborate with government stakeholders and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Utilize MBSE tools (e.g., No Magic Cameo System Modeler) to maintain traceability and integrity across system elements.
  • Support system integration and verification activities through model-based approaches.


Degree/Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree with 8-12 years of relevant experience, or Master's degree with 6-10 years of experience in systems engineering, software engineering, test engineering, or a related field.


Clearance Requirements
  • Active DoD TS clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI.


Required Skills
  • Experience working in a Security-Impacted (SIL) environment.
  • Proficiency in SysML, preferably using Cameo Systems Modeler or MagicDraw.
  • Strong communication skills-effective in both written and verbal interactions, including one-on-one and small group settings.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced work environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Defense/aerospace industry experience with military systems development.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies, particularly SCRUM or Kanban.
  • Experience with Atlassian tools including JIRA, Confluence, and Bitbucket.
  • OCSMP (OMG Certification for Systems Modeling Professionals).
  • Experience with executable SysML models and scripting languages.
  • Knowledge of MBSE frameworks, such as MagicGrid.
  • Understanding of military Concept of Operations (CONOPS)


Woking Conditions
  • Sitting at desk. Phone use and PC or laptop. Filing required. May require lifting and carrying boxes of supplies or files up to 25 lbs. Extended periods of sitting while on PC/laptop or phone.
  • General office equipment, which includes telephone, fax machine, copier, PC/laptop, and other miscellaneous office equipment.
  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is mandatory.
  • You may be asked to continue performance during inclement weather or other conditions when others are not permitted to work
  • Travel 10% (Washington D.C., Los Angeles, CA, Boston, MA), other ad-hoc travel might be required
  • Candidates must exhibit professional behavior that promotes teamwork, fosters cooperation, and enhances productivity in the workplace. Must be well organized with the ability to coordinate, prioritize and execute multiple tasks simultaneously in a high-pressure environment. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to work effectively with a variety of government, military and contractor personnel at all levels.
  • Candidates must be able to interface effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Grooming and dress is usually business casual, but dependent on client's standards. Must not pose a safety hazard to employees working in the same general area.


Estimated Compensation
  • $130,000 - 150,000


Individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to employee's experience, skills, education, industry, location, company size, and overall market demand.
