Duties
Help
  • Customize case scenarios and workflows suited to high-acuity emergency environments.
  • Design courses based on extensive original research and sourced protocols, literature reviews of local EMS agencies, various guidelines, and review of trauma cases.
  • Tailor training materials to address local ED settings and address existing literature gaps.
  • Develop instructional materials and skills assessments in accordance with hospital policy and any affiliated department guidelines, depending on the topic presented.
  • Submit created instructional content for peer review and makes edits based on feedback to ensure clarity, alignment with objectives, and safety compliance.
  • Serve as a mentor in the 12-week Emergency Nurse Residency (ENR) Program providing weekly mentorship and directed clinical development projects.
  • Mentor and direct massive transfusion process, high-sensitivity troponin implementation, nurse-initiated orders, Barcode Medication Administration (BCMA), Broselow pediatric crash cart, and decreasing blood culture contamination.
  • Observe staff and work area for potential safety hazards to ensure immediate action is taken to resolve or correct potential dangers or threats.
  • Serve as Competency Assessment Program Coordinator to assess and correct any deficiencies for the department.
  • Work with supervisors to design and update unit specific competency assessment tools in response to the changing mission and health care practices.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain as scheduled to support mission operations
  • This position has a requirement to lifting over 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.

Basic Requirement for Nurse (Educator/Emergency):
Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).

Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.

Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.

Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes (1) technical education advisor, and consultant developing, planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating the clinical education programs for a staff; (2) developing courses equivalent to upper-division undergraduate courses or advanced technical practices to address identified knowledge gaps for local Military Treatment Facilities (MTF) employees, including case-based simulations, scenario-specific assessments, and post-course evaluation tools. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11)

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
