Job Description

Introduction

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to drive the Design for Serviceability. In this role, you will perform evaluations of form, fit, function, access, and analysis of our products. You will collaborate with Vehicle Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Design, and Prototyping to advocate for core initiatives that support the Service optimization of our products. Simultaneously, this role involves managing our Fleet's inspection and maintenance program. You will present comprehensive reports, findings, and opportunities to reduce cost, time, and repair methods, while collaborating with engineering and the ERP solutions team to develop, implement, and improve inspection and maintenance activities.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: 4 to 6 years of engineering experience, ideally with successful experience in mechanical engineering within a service engineering organization.
  • CAD Skills: Strong 3D CAD experience, CATIA a plus.
  • Ability to design for a wide range of fabrication and manufacturing processes.
  • Solid understanding of complex mechanical and/or electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and safety protocols.
  • Prior work experience at client or in client's Industry.
  • Applicants must be able to work directly for Artech on W2.


Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Proficiency in using ERP systems for maintenance and operational data management is a plus.
  • Experience within the automotive industry.
  • Detail-oriented, including proven documentation skills, and the ability to work autonomously to manage projects.


Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to drive Serviceability (Design for Serviceability).
  • Evaluate part and assembly design, from concept to design to manufacturing introduction for hand clearance, tooling clearance, ergonomics, and feasibility of replacement of all components.
  • Identify the need for specialized tooling; guide the special tooling team for design ideation, and development of the tool.
  • Provide comprehensive cost/time modeling that showcases opportunities to drive product change that supports the reduction of cost or complexity of the repair.
  • Work with the technical writing team to establish the repair process.
  • Develop service part release strategy and maintain the Service BOM for spare parts planning.
  • Collaborate with engineering to develop & maintain the Inspection and maintenance activities associated with our Operations vehicles and Test fleet.
  • Review effectiveness data and suggest improvements to the maintenance plans to drive efficiency up and reduce vehicle downtime.
  • Identify areas of improvements in the Inspection and maintenance program and run process improvement projects independently.
  • Work with the technician and program management team to implement the maintenance plans.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations in all maintenance and inspection activities.
