Sr. SQL DBA

Zachary Piper Solutions is currently seeking a Sr. SQL DBA to support a highly classified, mission-critical program based in Washington, DC . This position is a full-time, onsite position . This role is critical to ensuring the performance, availability, and security of enterprise SQL Server environments across multiple security fabrics. As a Sr. SQL DBA, you will serve as a technical authority responsible for database operations, high availability, disaster recovery, performance optimization, and compliance in a complex enterprise environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server across DEV, UAT, and PROD environments, including Windows Server and cloud-hosted platforms.
• Own SQL Server installation, configuration, backups/restores, performance tuning, and security.
• Provide day-to-day operational support, including monitoring, scheduled maintenance jobs, troubleshooting, and vulnerability remediation.
• Design, implement, and support High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) solutions, including:
  • Always On Availability Groups
  • Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC)
• Perform advanced performance optimization, including:
  • T-SQL query tuning
  • Index management
  • Bottleneck and blocking analysis
• Support and maintain SQL Server components such as:
  • SSRS
  • SSAS
  • Power BI Report Server
• Proactively maintain database environments to ensure performance, reliability, and security.
• Develop, test, and manage backup and recovery strategies.
• Enforce database security policies, including:
  • STIG compliance
  • Audit readiness
  • TDE, SSL, and encryption standards
• Resolve complex database issues including:
  • Performance degradation
  • Data corruption
  • Connectivity and failover issues
• Maintain detailed documentation for:
  • Configuration standards
  • Operational procedures
  • Disaster recovery processes
• Collaborate closely with developers on:
  • Schema design
  • Stored procedures
  • Query optimization
• Plan and execute database upgrades, patching, and migrations.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in on-call rotations to support after-hours operational needs.
• Install and support Oracle databases as required.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
• Active Top Secret Clearance, TS/SCI Preferred
• 9+ years of overall DBA experience
• 5+ years of recent, in-depth SQL Server database administration
• Deep understanding of SQL Server architecture and internal processes
• Proven expertise in:
  • Always On Availability Groups
  • Windows Server Failover Clustering
  • HA/DR design and implementation
• Strong experience with encryption and security, including:
  • TDE
  • SSL
  • STIG compliance
• Advanced T-SQL skills for performance tuning and troubleshooting
• Experience supporting enterprise-scale SQL Server environments

Compensation & Benefits:

• Salary: From $160,000 - $200,000 * commensurate with experience*
