Northrop Grumman Space Systems - Missile Defense Integration (MDI) Business Unit has an exciting career opportunity in Huntsville, Alabama for a Senior Staff Systems or Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals, serving as the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Weapon Systems (GWS) GMD Fire Control (GFC) as an Agile Execution Lead.

Position Overview:

The selected Senior Staff Software or Systems Engineer will support the GFC Product Manager by providing technical product team leadership oversight, and will be responsible for the development and integration of the GFC road map, in collaboration with the GFC Architect, and will spearhead the planning of GFC capabilities to be developed within each GWS planning increment, support product development and integration, resolve technical issues from an engineering viewpoint, support proposals, and brief senior internal and external leadership from a technical and programmatic stature.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Develop, maintain, and integrate the GFC roadmap, in collaboration with the GFC Architect, to ensure contractual and program milestones are aligned and executable; ensure all applicable deliverables and/or material considerations are accounted for.
  • Manages the GFC backlog, product team dashboards, release plans, and coordinates with the GWS release management team.
  • Owns and is responsible for the reporting of GFC metrics (quantifiable back up data [QBD], velocity, predictability, etc.) for each sprint and planning iteration.
  • Responsible for successful cross-team alignment, integration, and execution; identifies and communicates/documents dependencies and ensures resolution.
  • Clearly articulates and briefs statuses, issues, and recommended courses of actions (CoAs)/mitigations to senior-level leaders
  • Supports the identification and management of GFC execution risks and opportunities.
  • Supports the GFC PM to achieve program key performance (KP) objectives and prepares for and participates in the associated reviews.
  • Assists the GFC PM by providing cost and schedule solutions to support product team needs aligned with available resources.
  • Support/brief during GWS technical and program management reviews with internal and external stakeholders
  • Possess an understanding of engineering development lifecycle across multiple engineering disciplines with a focus on Software and Systems Engineering
  • Possess experience with Agile execution, DevSecOps, and development tools


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 14 years of related work experience, or a Master's Degree and 12 years of related work experience, or 10 year of related work experience with a PhD. in STEM.
  • Active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance
  • Extensive technical leadership and development experience with Missile Defense systems
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with teams and stakeholders to include excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage efforts in an Agile and DevSecOps process model.
  • Experience with customer and stakeholder relationship management
  • Proven executive-level presentation/briefing development experience.
  • Ability to lead product team with organization and execution of tasks that acknowledges cost, schedule, and technical constraints.
  • Problem solving skills of technical, organizational, or personnel issues.
  • Supporting proposal activities that includes basis of estimate (BOE) development, Integrated Master Schedule input, and writing contributions on multiple proposal activities.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business.
  • Experience and understanding of Engineering Processes and Procedures to include Systems Engineering and Software and/or Hardware development.
  • Broad skill set that is balanced between interpersonal, business, and technical capabilities.
  • Cost account manager (CAM) or earned value certification/training and experience


Preferred Qualifications:
  • GMD domain knowledge or direct Launch Support Systems (LSS) / Launch Management System (LMS) experience
  • Software development exposure; familiarity with Software/Hardware integration
  • Strong knowledge of the Missile Defense System (MDS) and its elements
  • Experience delivering products and services on Missile Defense Agency (MDA) programs in accordance with MAP/PMAP standards.
  • Previous experience as a Product Owner / Product Owner certification
  • Northrop Grumman CAM certification


Primary Level Salary Range: $184,100.00 - $276,100.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
