Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking an Environmental Lab Technician A for our Undersea Systems facility in the Annapolis, Maryland office. The Undersea Systems Test Department provides high-quality electrical, acoustical, elctro-optical, and electro-mechanical (hydrostatic, environmental, hydraulic/pneumatic) data to support design, development and manufacturing of game-changing maritime technologies - including submarine sensors, unmanned systems, mine hunting systems and torpedoes - that help ensure America's undersea dominance and national security. This position requires operation and maintenance of electro-mechanical lab equipment and facilities, as well as consistent compliance with test specifications.

What You Will Get To Do:

The Environmental Lab Technician A will perform environmental tests and measurements of electronic, electro-mechanical, hydraulic, and/or pneumatic assemblies and components using standard and precision environmental instrumentation.

The Environmental Lab Technician will also:
  • Work from test specifications obtained from higher classified personnel and/or obtain necessary specifications from engineering as required, using established procedures.
  • Set up and operate environmental equipment and facilities required, and connect in proper sequence to obtain desired data.
  • Interpret resulting data as to its reliability and validity.
  • Submit written and/or oral test reports, receive work assignments, instructions and guidance.
  • Determine circuit configuration with respect to interconnecting networks involved in utilization of multi-instrument test equipment and units and/or assemblies being tested.
  • Perform construction and wiring of test fixtures and test chassis working from drawings, schematics and /or oral instructions.
  • Troubleshoot for defects in assemblies and systems, requiring a knowledge of circuit inter-relationship in order to isolate a defect.
  • Calibrate environmental equipment, following established procedures, as required to assure proper operation and read-outs.
  • Make necessary calculations involving the use of algebraic equations and trigonometric functions, select the applicable formula to solve problems.
  • Procure materials, parts and necessary equipment to accomplish work assignments.
  • Work under normal guidance from higher classified laboratory personnel, engineer and/or supervisor.
  • Guide and assist lower classified employees in environmental laboratory techniques.
  • Perform work of equal or lower skill level as required.


Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED and 4 years of undersea systems test experience.
  • Experience troubleshooting electro-mechanical systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting hydraulic or pneumatic systems.
  • Experience with environmental test practices (Vibration, Thermal, Hydrostatic).
  • Current Top Secret/SCI clearance, US Citizenship required.
  • Must be able to work overtime and 2nd or 3rd shifts when required.
  • Must be able to go on field assignments for short to medium durations.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with thermal and vibration testing, especially with Thermotron and Unholtz-Dickie equipment.
  • Relevant military schools and MOS (e.g., electronics/avionics schools, or schools for intermediate-level repair or depot-level maintenance of aircraft, complex vehicles/systems, etc.)
  • Experience with U.S. Navy-related electronic and mechanical systems
  • Prior military experience
  • Qualification and experience with common industry standard practices, such as FOD, ESD, Electrical Safety, and basic solder is preferred.
  • Experience planning and performing a wide variety of mechanical tasks including manual machining (mill, lathe, sheet metal, saws, drill press) and assembly.

Primary Level Salary Range: $50,883.00 - $121,755.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
