Job Description
MANTECH is seeking a motivated, career and customer-oriented Environmental Health and Safety Technician to join our team in College Park, Maryland. The position provides Safety and Environmental oversight and support for an organization that is tasked with researching challenging problems within the Intelligence Community.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
The Environmental Health and Safety Officer manages the Laboratory for Physical Sciences (LPS) Occupational Safety and Health programs in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations, Code of Federal Regulations, Department of Defense regulations, and all other applicable regulations.The Environmental Health and Safety Technician shall possess the following:

The Environmental Health and Safety Officer manages the Laboratory for Physical Sciences (LPS) Occupational Safety and Health programs in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations, Code of Federal Regulations, Department of Defense regulations, and all other applicable regulations.The Environmental Health and Safety Technician shall possess the following:
- Draft environmental standard operating procedures in accordance with NSA guidelines.
- Conduct Workplace Inspections.
- Address environmental health and safety concerns.
- Coordinate with project leaders to develop and implement remediation plans for health and safety concerns.
- Maintain a hazardous chemical inventory.
- Ensure that all material safety data sheets are available before substances are brought into the work environment.
- Serve as the liaison with NSA's office of Occupational Health, Environmental & Safety Services (OHESS).
- Monitor all chemicals ordered and brought into the Lab.
- Assist scientific staff in drawing up standard operating procedures (SOPs) that incorporate safe practices.
- Carry out safety audits and inspections.
- Investigate accidents and incidents and ensure they are reported and documented as required by law.
- Ensure that hazardous materials are correctly labeled and stored.
- Ensure that protective clothing and equipment are in good order.
- Oversee routine decontamination procedures and carry out effective decontamination after an accident.
- Maintain appropriate literature and disseminate information on safety matters.
- Liaise with emergency services.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of experience providing environmental protection, safety and health services for programs or contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
- Must hold a current CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) credential.
Security Clearance Requirements:
- Current/Active TS/SCI with Polygraph.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50%.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.
- The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers, management, and customers, which may involve delivering presentations.
