Job Description

Duties

  • Serves as a working leader.
  • Performs duties as a cargo processor, receiving and inspecting general and explosive cargo shipments arriving by commercial truck/air and military truck/air.
  • Serves as a Hazardous Cargo/ Explosive shipment Leader on a rotating basis.
  • Builds and breaks down pallets and maintains and stores equipment.
  • Performs other related duties: Joint Inspector- Posts mission status boards, maintains mission status records,log books and cargo re-handle logs.

    • May be required to operate vehicles or gross weights less than 22,000 pounds such as warehouse tractor, multi- stop van, pickup trucks, farm tractor, five tractor, five ton yard spotter and motorized warehouse sweeper
    • Must be able to work at elevated heights and climb down ladder to floor or elevated transfer vehicle if malfunction.
    • Must be able to obtain Hazardous Cargo Inspection certification and maintain currency. Must perform Hazardous Inspector Evaluator duties. Subject to shift work and uncommon tours or duty
    • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance as a condition of employment
    • This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions. IAW, DoDI 3020-42, Defense Continuity Programs
    • Position requires access to firearms. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence may not occupy this position in accordance
    • with the Gun Control Act of 1968, as amended 30 Sep 96. Employee must sign DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms or Ammunition
    Qualifications

    In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

    QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-7000, Packing And Processing Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

    The screen out element for this position is Ability to lead or supervise.

    PHYSICAL EFFORT
    Heavy lifting and carrying (45-79 pounds). Both hands are required. Hours of standing are more than 2 hours per day. Hours of kneeling are 1/2 hour per day. Hours of repeated bending are 1/2 hour per day. Climbing, use of legs and arms. Both legs required. Operation of crane, truck, tractor or motor vehicle. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Near vision correctable at J 3 Inches to 16 inches to Jaeger I to 4. Far vision corrcc1able in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. Both eyes required. Depth perception. Ability to distinguish basic colors. Hearing must meet HI hearing profile in applicable regulations. Mental and emotional stability required. Lift can be otherwise accommodated a specific physical condition or impairment will not automatically disqualify a candidate.

    WORKING CONDITIONS
    Works inside and outside (other than normal commuting. Intermittent excessive noise. Dust grease and oil.
    Working around moving objects or vehicles. Explosives. Working closely with others.

    JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
  • Skill in operating trucks or truck tractors with traileror semi-trailers coupled with a turntable or pivot hook. Ability to interpret oral and written instructions and specifications related to the operation and servicing of motor vehicles.
  • Knowledge of pallet buildup and breakdown. Ability to build cargo to prevent shifting, falling or damage of any type.
  • Ability to operate all vehicles assigned to the Aerial Port. Ability to perform routine vehicle operator servicing.
  • Ability tocomplete applicable forms and documents: i.e. labels. Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance and storage requirements. Knowledge of pallet and aircraft load limitations. Ability to train personnel.
  • Knowledge of security protection requirements. Knowledge of cargo protection requirements. Skill in performing Hazardous Cargo inspector duties and maintain certification. Ability to lead other workers, distribute work and give instructions.

  • PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

    VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
