Job Description

Duties

  • You will determine the quality of welds through accepted visual inspection standards.
  • You will demonstrate welding techniques, procedures, and safety precautions to welder trainees.
  • You will advise personnel on the use of welding tools and equipment for safe operation.
  • You will enforce safety, fire, and other regulations to ensure safe welding work practices.
  • You will alter lesson plans to reach and motivate students of diverse ages, backgrounds, and levels of interpretation.
  • You will lead discussions to provide greater understanding of course content.

  • You must provide a current and valid American Welding Society (AWS) certification as a Certified Welding Educator or Certified Welding Instructor.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: 1) Leading, instructing and mentoring personnel in the welding field within a structured environment; 2) Monitoring blocks of instruction provided by assistant instructors for compliance with established curricula; 3) Preparing performance based objectives and outlines in accordance with the national trade curriculum guidelines (i.e. U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship programs); and 4) Preparing budgets and requests for metal and welding shop operations and obtaining supplies and equipment through local purchasing procedures.

The incumbent must possess at least one of the following: experience at a minimum journeyman or technician level in their area of expertise (3 or more years}; or, a minimum of three (3) years' experience as a certified teacher in a vocational/technical construction related training program.

PPP applicants will be placed at the FPL, if determined Well Qualified (WQ). To receive priority consideration, the FPL must be the same grade level or equivalent of the retained grade or the grade held immediately prior to separation.
