Job Description
Job Summary:
Indigo Industries is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Network Systems Engineer with deep expertise in tactical communications and unmanned systems integration to support the design, implementation, and sustainment of secure, high-performance communications architectures critical to our mission. This role is instrumental in enabling resilient, mission-ready connectivity across contested and DIL (disconnected, intermittent, limited-bandwidth) environments, with a strong emphasis on integrating SATCOM, LTE/5G, and tactical radio systems.
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in IP networking, communications systems, and Linux-based environments, with demonstrated experience supporting unmanned and distributed platforms. This individual will work closely with cross-functional engineering and operational teams to ensure system interoperability, enhance network and communications resilience, and support the rapid deployment and fielding of advanced defense technologies in real-world operational scenarios.
1. Network Design & Architecture
Design, configure, and maintain secure, scalable IP-based networks in enterprise, mobile, and tactical environments
Develop resilient network topologies supporting mission-critical operations in DIL (disconnected, intermittent, limited-bandwidth) environments
Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies to enhance operational capability and field deployment effectiveness
2. Network Configuration, Deployment & Field Operations
Configure and deploy routers, switches, firewalls, and communication systems across WAN/LAN and multi-transport networks (LTE, SATCOM, 5G, tactical radios)
Support deployment and operation of networking equipment in both fixed and field-based environments
Assist in communications planning and execution for field tests, demonstrations, and mission events
3. Routing, Performance Optimization & Reliability
Develop and implement dynamic routing (BGP, OSPF), failover, and QoS policies across multi-transport networks
Monitor and optimize network performance, throughput, and latency in constrained environments
Maintain high availability through redundancy planning, performance tuning, and proactive troubleshooting
4. Security, Compliance & Red Team Support
Integrate and troubleshoot secure communication pathways using VPNs, firewalls, and encryption technologies
Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure compliance with Zero Trust Architecture and DoD/NIST cyber policies
Support red cell / adversarial testing activities, including emulation of contested network environments
5. Test & Evaluation (T&E) Support
Support nontraditional Test & Evaluation (T&E) operations by planning and executing events to assess operational impact of emerging technologies
Align network and system capabilities with validated mission requirements and real-world use cases
Collect, analyze, and report performance data to inform capability development and transition
6. Tactical Systems Integration
Integrate networking solutions with tactical and autonomous systems, including unmanned and distributed platforms
Prototype, configure, and demonstrate network-enabled capabilities in realistic field environments
Ensure interoperability between network infrastructure and mission systems
7. Automation, Collaboration & Training
Assist with automation of network configuration, monitoring, and management using scripting or orchestration tools (e.g., Python, Bash, Ansible)
Collaborate with engineers, developers, and operational users to ensure successful system integration and mission execution
Train and support users on network configuration, tools, and operational best practices
Qualifications
Required:
-3+ years of experience in network engineering or tactical communications
-Strong understanding of IP networking, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), and VPN technologies
-Hands-on experience with WAN/LAN configuration, QoS, and policy-based routing
-Experience with Linux-based systems and CLI tools
-Ability to work independently in dynamic and field-based environments
-Eligible for U.S. security clearance
Preferred:
-Experience with SDN, SD-WAN, or network orchestration platforms
-Scripting or automation skills (Python, Bash, Ansible, etc.)
-Prior experience in military communications
-Familiarity with Zero Trust Architecture and NIST security frameworks
-Experience with Link 16 Tactical Data Link (TDL)
-Familiarity with SATCOM, LTE/5G, or tactical radio integration
Compensation:
-Dependent on experience
-Dependent on work location
