The Work
The Systems Engineer provides technical leadership for Department of Defense (DoD) training simulator programs. You will own the end to end RAM and safety architecture, lead hazard and environmental analyses, and direct Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) activities-including supply chain, configuration management, and technical data. The role requires the candidate to influence program direction across multiple engineering disciplines.
Who you are
Key Responsibilities
• Program Level Technical Planning & Risk Management
Lead technical planning workshops; assess new simulator concepts for RAM, system safety, and environmental safety risks.
Establish risk mitigation strategies that are incorporated into program baselines and schedules.
• Integrated RAM & System Safety Architecture
Design and champion integrated RAMS and System Safety solutions that meet DoD performance and safety targets.
Translate FMECA, RCM, FMEA, and hazard analysis results into system wide maintenance tasks, safety controls, and design changes.
• Comprehensive Hazard & Environmental Analysis
Direct hazard identification (HAZOP, FTA) and environmental impact assessments throughout the product lifecycle (concept, design, fabrication, test, operation, sustainment, disposal).
Ensure compliance with MIL STD 882E, DoD 5000.02, and applicable environmental regulations (e.g., RoHS, REACH).
• ILS Discipline Leadership
Supply Support & Obsolescence: Define Level of Repair (LOR) strategies, manage part obsolescence programs, and develop supply chain risk mitigation plans.
Configuration Management: Oversee baselines, change control, and technical data packages to ensure traceability of RAM/Safety requirements.
Logistics & Sustainment: Lead cost benefit and trade studies supporting logistics, maintenance planning, and sustainment budget forecasts.
• Failure Investigation & Cross Disciplinary Coordination
Lead root cause investigations across mechanical, electrical, software, and test domains; determine severity, corrective actions, and preventive measures.
Facilitate collaboration among engineering, logistics, quality, and procurement teams to close performance gaps.
• Requirements Translation & Standards Enforcement
Analyze DoD contract and acquisition requirements; convert them into integrated system solutions balancing technical, schedule, cost, and safety constraints.
Enforce application of MIL STD 1388, MIL HDBK 881/502, GEIA STD 0007, TA STD 0017, MIL HDBK 217, MIL STD 882E, and relevant environmental standards.
