Position: Senior AI/ML Engineer

Position Overview: Modus Operandi Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced AI/ML Engineer with a strong background in AI/ML integration and development. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of designing, developing, and implementing advanced AI and machine learning solutions to address complex business challenges.
Key Responsibilities: The selected candidate will provide AI-Integration services to support Westover Air Reserve Base and deliver expertise in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and automation to enhance operational efficiency and mission readiness. Th AI – Integrator will provide end-to-end artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for Base Civil Engineering, including the design, development, testing, and deployment of custom AI models to enhance the efficiency of mission-specific processes.
In support of operational effectiveness, the selected candidate will perform comprehensive data analysis, machine learning model training, and predictive modeling to derive actionable insights from structured and un-structured data sources. Additionally, the candidate shall implement robust cybersecurity protocols and risk mitigation strategies to ensure the safe deployment and sustainment of AI applications. Additionally, technical expertise shall be applied collaboratively with government personnel to ensure alignment with strategic objectives, compliance standards, and emerging AI governance frameworks.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Demonstrated expertise and hands-on experience in advanced artificial intelligence (AI) development, integration, and sustainment within secure DoD environments. Required skill sets include, but are not limited to, the following:
Machine Learning - Deep proficiency in designing, training, validating, and optimizing machine learning and deep learning models, including supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning techniques. Expertise with industry-standard frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, Keras, and associated MLOps toolchains is essential.
Software Expertise - Strong software engineering capabilities, including advanced programming skills in Python and experience developing AI-enabled applications within Linux-based environments. Familiarity with backend frameworks such as Django, asynchronous task queues such as Celery, and database systems including PostgreSQL is required.
AI Integration - Ability to integrate AI capabilities into legacy and modern systems, with strong knowledge of cloud computing architectures (AWS GovCloud, Azure IL5/6), containerized services (Kubernetes, Docker), and modern API/interface standards (REST, GraphQL, MQTT). Experience deploying AI services in secure, distributed, or hybrid environments is highly desirable.
Data - Expertise in data acquisition, preparation, and modeling from heterogeneous sources. Skills should include data wrangling, feature engineering, ETL pipeline development, and the use of big data tools such as Apache Spark, Databricks, Hadoop ecosystems, and enterprise data platforms.
Full-Stack Development - Familiarity with full-stack development concepts to support AI system integration, including working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript fundamentals, and secure web application design principles.
Cybersecurity - Demonstrated understanding of secure coding practices, and industry standards e.g. ISO 27001 for cybersecurity considerations for AI/ML systems. Personnel must be capable of securing AI pipelines and ensuring compliance with DoD AI Ethical Principles.
Methodologies - Proficiency in modern CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps methodologies for agile AI development. Candidates should understand version control (Git), automated testing, infrastructure-as-code, container orchestration, and deployment automation tools.
Strong Technical Writing - documentation, and communication skills to produce training materials, system documentation, and operational guidance for non-technical Air Force personnel.
Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field. Advanced degrees preferred.
