Duties

  • Instructs students through assigned blocks of instruction at basic and/or advanced technical levels of avionic courses.
  • Monitors, evaluates, and documents student progress and performance.
  • Researches, develops, revises and recommends updates to avionic course materials in accordance with established learning objectives.
  • Maintains professional and technical proficiency
  • Accomplishes special projects

  • This is a faculty member position of the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF), under accreditation, by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC).
  • Minimum degree requirement of an Associate's Degree from CCAF or a recognized accredited college or university and experience that has demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area to be taught (i.e., Aircraft Maintenance), CONT-
  • CONT- with a specialty in Avionics Maintenance and the methods and techniques of instruction.
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays
  • Shift work (nights) may be required
  • The employee may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft.
  • Requires some physical exertion which may include at times such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, slippery, and/or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, kneeling, stretching, pushing, CONT-
  • pulling, reaching; and recurring lifting and carrying of moderately heavy items (occasionally items up to 50 pounds). Requires specific but common physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity.
  • Work is performed in a classroom environment that involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety instructions. Some instruction may be conducted in an aircraft maintenance environment: clean, well-lighted, CONT-
  • and well-ventilated production areas involving moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions, e.g., working around electrical and radiant energy and moving parts, carts, machines, and vehicles with exposure to-CONT-
  • irritant chemical and noise. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, boots, goggles, hearing protection, gloves, and/or shields.
  • May involve some work outside on the flight line in a simulated flight line environment, subject to cold, heat, and/or dust
Qualifications

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONTINUE:
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance
  • A pre-employment physical is required for this position.
  • This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions. IAW, DoDI 3020-42, Defense Continuity Programs.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, GS-1712 Training Instruction series.

BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:

For Community College of the Air Force GS-1712 positions: Section 9315 of 10 USC directs the commander of the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) to comply with standards established by the Secretary of Education to confer associate degrees upon enlisted members who have completed the requirements for the prescribed programs of study. To comply with this directive, all faculty members of the Community College of the Air Force must meet minimum educational requirements as prescribed by the accrediting body Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC), i.e. all teachers must hold at least an associate's degree in order for the school to meet accreditation criteria.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s); Supervising or administering a training program; Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results; Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis.

EDUCATION: Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B or J.D. [remove LL.B or J.D., if unrelated] with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts with your application.

OR
COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of the experience described above, and part of the education described above. Therefore, have a combination of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience that when combined total at least 100 percent.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of a wide range of the principles and practical methods, techniques, and tools of instruction to teach a variety of students with a range of differences such as diverse ages, backgrounds, and levels of interest.

2. Knowledge of Aircraft Maintenance with a specialty in Avionics Maintenance at a practical level to include procedures, aircraft system theory, common test equipment, common tool usage, Air Force Technical Orders (AFTOs), automated maintenance management systems, safety, security, and management and maintenance directives.

3. Knowledge of measurement principles, techniques, and instructional design utilizing computer applications.

4. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
