1) Operating semi-automatic gas/oil fired high pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment (e.g., electric feed

2) Adjusting firing controls, fuel feeds and air drafts for optimal combustion efficiency; and
3) Performing preventive maintenance and cleaning of equipment.

Physical Efforts
Work requires "analysis by ear", close attention of eyes, ability to distinguish basic colors, constant standing and walking, periodic climbing, No reaching above shoulder more than 2 hours per day. No reaching more than 2 hours per-day No more than 16 hours of work per-day.
Working Conditions
The work is performed indoors 60% of the time. Incumbent exposed to constant noise and heat from the boilers. The position requires exposure to constant noise, vibration from the turbine and generators. Working areas are often necessarily dusty. Personnel protective equipment is required for this position hard hat, safety shoes, gloves, eye protection, safety vest or high visibility clothing and occasional dust mask. Incumbent may be exposed to extreme heat up to 120 degrees F when working around, and/or near boilers. The main hazards are bums from high pressure and high temperature steam, injury from accidental contact with moving equipment, electrical shocks from electrical equipment and wiring, and injury or death from major explosions from turbine or boilers in adjacent bay.
- You will operate high-pressure boilers in emergencies, on a daily basis, and when assigned.
- You will operate both manual and automatic controls for oil burners, gas, checks feed water system such as DA tank levels feed water pumps and controls for water control.
- You will assist the boilermakers in routine operational maintenance repairs, tube cleaning and fireside cleaning.
- You will control the operation of four air compressors that supply the station air. You will start up and shut down air compressors and cooling tower as needed to meet air system demand.
- You will maintain the operation of the diesel generator plant consisting of two diesel generators, 2.5 MW capacities, and emergency diesel generators located at nodal plants and other buildings.
- You will operate fuel handling equipment for number two oil, cleans watch station and other areas as assigned. You will make operational checks, adjusts cooling water, adds oil and lubricates auxiliary boiler equipment, forced daft fans, etc.
- You will conduct routine preventative maintenances, and cleaning of equipment and require to maintained operational log sheet and charts for all equipment.

- Turbine operators will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license for a passenger car or larger vehicle.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current State of Maryland Industrial Waste Water License Class I license.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current MD Stationary Engineers license Class 2 (or NIULP Class 2) license.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
